Dr. Kirk Yuen Chang, MD

Dr. Chang is outstanding - attentive, thorough, and most importantly looks at and gives excellent advice on a patient's overall health, and not just cardiac condition.

When I first met Dr. Chang I was in bad shape. After a routine exam, they admitted me to the hospital with a heart condition. Prior to that, I had no idea anything was even wrong with me! On the recommendation of a colleague, Dr. Chang visited me in the hospital and I immediately trusted him to be responsible for my care. That was about 4 years ago. Yesterday I went for my yearly follow up and he was as validating as ever for all the things I was doing right, cautionary regarding those things I do that maybe weren't in my best health interest and informative about not only what I should do based on the latest discoveries, but the breakthroughs I may benefit from in the future. I like him, trust him and recommend him without hesitation.

Cedars should have their entire staff of doctors trained by Dr. Chang. A doctor who know medicine and the importance of patient care is a very rare breed.

This review is long due. This doctor was my mother's primary doctor and cardiologist in CS at the time of her death following a series of surgeries. Despite all the warning signs of massive internal hemorrhaging following her first surgery, he failed to diagnose the bleeding and much valuable time was lost. My mom underwent the surgery for an individual with diverticulitis and a colo-vesicle fistula. We later found out that for the next few days after surgery, she had findings of ongoing blood loss. The labile blood pressure with severe tachycardia, inappropriate response to volume resuscitation both with crystalloid and packed red blood cells, and laboratory findings consistent with severe hemorrhage. In addition, there were many clinical signs of bleeding that should have alerted the doctors and particularly her primary physician to act quicker in order to prevent the natural sequence of events that eventually took place in her situation. Some of the clinical signs that should… have raised the early red flag were bloody urine, bleeding from her intra-abdominal drain, and failure to respond to the usual and customary treatment options surgeons opt for in the immediate post operative state. That's inexcusable in this day and age. As her primary physician, Kirk should have known and responded. This doctor should have been upfront with the family and I cannot see any reason for him to withhold such critical information. Instead he later spent time arguing with me and defended the colleague surgeon, Dr. Stephen Yoo, whose series of surgeries lead to the horrific sufferings prior to the death of my 87 year old mother!

Dr Kirk Chang is a true example of the perfect doctor. He is brilliant, caring, kind, professional, prompt & thorough. He truly cares about his patients. We drive 4 hours for his excellence and compassion. I can not say enough great things about this man. We have been with him for over 5 years and never had a negative experience. We are at Cedars Sinai every week. Thank you Dr Chang for all of the past years of care, compassion and quality medical care. You are a one of a kind. If you are looking for a Cardiologist that is beyond excellent... this is your man.

Ok experience. He's nice but seems rushed. Appears agitated if patient asks too many questions. Charges patients $250/year just for the honor to make appointments.

Intelligent, caring, kind, direct, open, actually LISTENS, trustworthy, nice sense of humor, great staff who have repeatedly gone out of their way to help me with insurance and scheduling issues. Dr. Chang has helped me through more than a couple significant (to me!) health issues through his own expertise and, when necessary, via recommendation of specialists. I highly recommend him. The specialists he's recommended to me have been quite good too.

Overall experience excellent. Took me seriously. Cautious yet kept following up and doing what needed to be done without overdoing. Called me at home. Asked me to e mail him with any concerns and questions, and always answered. Interventions may have been life saving.

Great Doctor, have been with him for years and would trouble shoot over the phone so I dont have to go to the office. Spends time & listens

This is one smart doctor who listens, retains and cares. He seems genuinely interested in your health and finding a solution to your illness. I was ref to him by another specialist to determine whether I had a cardiology issue. He ran every test on me, and although I don't have a diagnosis to my symptoms, I feel very confident that I do not have a cardiology (heart) problem. His staff appear to be very competent too.
