Dr. Kirk Edward Houston, DDS

Dr. Kirk Houston:
Dr. Houston joined the practice in 2002 after many years in academics. Dr. Houston went to Georgia Southern University and then completed his undergraduate dental education at the Medical College of Georgia. Upon graduating in 1994 with a DMD degree, Dr. Houston continued his formal education by completing two residencies and a fellowship over the next six years.
The first residency was a two-year general practice, hospital dentistry residency at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, LA. This program was a hospital-based program sponsored by the LSU School of Dentistry. Here, Dr. Houston learned how to provide dental care for medically compromised patients. Treatment included OR visits for the adult mentally handicapped.
The second residency was a three-year prosthodontics residency. Prosthodontics is the art and science of fabricating artificial teeth. The field of prosthodontics includes cosmetic dentistry, crowns, bridges, partials, dentures and implants. This program …was also hospital-based and took place at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. The University of Missouri at Kansas City School of Dentistry provided academic support.
The fellowship was in Maxillofacial Prosthetics and Dental Oncology. This program took place at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. This program trains specialists in the field of prosthodontics in providing care for the unique needs of cancer patients.
Since leaving academics, thus ending his career as a professional student, Dr. Houston has focused on providing specialty care in a general dentistry setting in the Upstate of South Carolina. His many areas of interest include implant dentistry, complete dentures, partial dentures and cosmetic dentistry. For patients with complex needs, many of these areas of dentistry can and should be combined to produce optimum results. On a personal note, one of his private ambitions is to absolutely change the misguided assumption that artificial teeth, whether dentures, partials, crowns or bridges must look “false”!
