Very professional, knowledgable man. I trust Dr. Desai, cant say that about everybody

I was recently diagnosed with lupus and referred to Dr. Desai by my general practitioner. He was very off-putting and arrogant the first time I saw him but nothing over the top. However, when I went to see him during my first flare-up things had totally changed. Apparently, his fragile ego was shattered when my GP consulted a hematologist to discuss (and disagree with) his proposed treatment plan for me because of the effects of another auto-immune condition I suffer from. He was very rude to me at this point and REFUSED to do anything about my flare up even though I was absolutely miserable. All this because another doctor expressed concern about the medication he had prescribed me. Mind you, I didn't ask for any of this. I merely told my GP what he had prescribed and, fortunately, she recognized the risk and consulted another doctor. Dr. Desai is a little man, with no respect for his patients. Do yourself a favor and find someone else.

At his Clarksville location I was referred to him by my primary doctor!!? Once In front of him, 1st words where, your too you to have arthritis. I'm 48 and have worked all my life, real work. I told him of my back problems and pain. Oh I don't deal with back pain. I said back arthritis, arthritis? No. Your doctor should have sent you to an orthopedic surgeon to see what's going on with your back. Then next, you should go to a pain clinic. Why do I need drugs like I'm a drugy looking for the pain to go away. I want to see my spine and knees and shoulders before I want any medicine. He brushed off a lot of more questions I had for him. And I also told him of family arthritis issues, oh you may have some them. Finally he lesson to my lungs then checked my knees by moving. Oh yeah I feel some clicking. Nothing of the back. With shirt on he said your back looks straight. Now I have just been looking at the picture on his wall of a back that is way out of line like mine. But he says it's… straight without and x-ray. Which he has a sign in his entrance, $5 per x-ray. But he's going to tell my doctor I probably need x-rays. All I can say is I believe this man does NOT help people of color. Wow! Imagine that!

I have been to many doctor but Dr. Desai is very good about collecting all information. I have been to him several times and he examined every time. He explained me my blood work. He also explained me why he want to change medicine or increase medicine. I like him and he is a good doctor.

He does not read referral paperwork or even comes into the room with a complete chart! He is pompous and arrogant when he talks to you and any questions you ask are answered with eye rolls and huge sighs. God forbid someone sees him and is on the verge of a major medical trauma. Test results and referral paperwork from an actual professional mean absolutely nothing to this horrendous excuse for a doctor. He was very clear today in that he only prefers to see arthritis patients. Oh, and if you irritate him with questions he will talk trash and make off color jokes about you with his staff right outside of your door! To make matters worse, he will then refer you to his personal buddy who just happens to also be a rheumatologist with a long history of dissatisfied patients sharing common complaints. I went to him at a critical point and he treated me like a paycheck. If I suffer irreparable damage or worse, see the brink of death, I will have this man's business card in my pocket.

If your primary physician suggests that you see a rheumatologist to assist with a diagnosis, this is the man to see.

I have seen Dr. Desai twice, and both times felt very comfortable in his care. I did not feel patronized and experienced Dr. Desai as a humble physician.

I went in to see Dr. Desai at the urging of a friend at work. I've had swollen joints and a lot of pain for several months. I was barely examined, told it was probably osteoarthritis and that I should swim. I was also sent for blood work and told if results were not good or anything were to show up, they'd call and told (strangely) he didn't need to see me again. After not hearing anything for a few weeks and as my symptoms had continued and gotten worse, I called. It took my calling 5 calls to find out the results always being told they didn't know where they were, but would call and find out, then let me know. This never happened. Now I finally have them and have no idea what any of the tests results mean, as no one could tell me anything and was told he would write on the tests (faxed ) if anything was amiss. Nothing was written. Sadly it took me about 8 weeks to get into see him. I have another appointment in Nashville and hoping it goes better. Of course, that's… another 8 week wait-having no clue what's causing my body to do what it's doing. My friend adores him, and he listens to her and tries everything to help her. I'm not sure why things went as they did. I was polite and well-organized. Oddly he recommended things I'd already told the nurse (with a typed list) I was doing-supplements and such. I would go elsewhere.

Dr. Desai is a wonderful doctor. After having gone to a different Rheumatologist for 8 years, I swiched to Dr. Desai. The first thing he did was take x-rays to see exactly what damage RA had caused to my joints so far. My old Rheum. had never done this. (Although it's a pretty standard procedure, when I requested x-rays from the old doc, he said we didn't need them). Dr. Desai is one of the most caring doctors I've been to. He is always receptive to my questions and/or concerns, never talks down to me, and never brushes me off (granted, he is very busy at times, so we must get down to business quickly). I would (and have) recommended Dr. Desai to other RA patients.

Spent a total of 2 minuets with me, gave me the name of a drug and told me to have my family doctor prescribe it for me as well as some blood work. What kind of doctor will not write his own prescriptions or order blood work? He took no time to tell me what he thought was wrong with me, or address my pain issues. On top of that my next appointment is in 3 months! I can barely walk, but I'm supposed to wait 3 months ? It took a total of 5 minutes from me walking in the door to walking out. He really rushed me out of there. I'm finding another doctor, and recommend that you do too.
