Dr. Kjell Andrew Youngren, MD

Two years ago was treated for prostate cancer and kidney stone. Was professional and staff were attentive. The Athena portal they use is poor compared to others. But now he has so many patients that they cannot even issue a script for a semi annual PSA and Testosterone blood test that they keep promising to do! They are incompetent, lazy, and arrogant. Cannot even issue a valid script despite promises to do. And despite the name Advanced Urology the practice is anything but advanced. The portal is terrible and Dr. Youngren does not believe in PSMA PET scans for prostate cancer under any circumstances despite being Medicare approved. Am switching to another urologist.

He is horrible, while examining me he did not care about my level of comfort, touched my genitals when I was consulting about my kidney to compare to the kidney pain???? Very passive aggressive. When I told him he was hurting me, he applied even more pressure and looked at me creepily and said “oh yeah I bet it does hurt” This guy has problems please do not go see him.

A phenomenon where a physician dismisses the patients symptoms for something lesser and not offering appropriate treatment causing further damage to an already suffering patient. Stay away and heed the below reviews. Rude staff will be the least of your problems.

I have seen Dr. Youngren for a number of years to monitor an aging prostate. Of the half dozen specialists I have used, he is by far the most competent. I recently had a recurring UTI which he suspected may be related to a bladder stone. Upon cystoscopy, he located a jackstone and successfully broke it up with a laser and removed it during an outpatient surgical procedure. Minor 1 day discomfort, no pain, and no bleeding after the procedure. He has always been a very professional and thorough specialist with an excellent, caring 'bedside manner.' Frank and honest answers when questioned. If you want 'sugar coated', less honest answers, go elsewhere. He gives patients the time they need which means at times, his schedule may be delayed. I have had an occasion or two where my case needed 'extra time,' and I greatly appreciated being afforded the professional courtesy and attention I received. When I've asked medical/technical questions, Dr. Youngren has always discussed answers in… both a medical and vernacular manner to fully satisfy my curiosity. His staff are highly competent, professional, and personable. The office is well organized, and patient communication is the best of all physicians I consult, better than the checklist driven corporate medical groups. Dr. Youngren views my entire health 'picture,' as a whole, not just urology issues. He is a specialist you can trust.

Dr. Youngren was fine but is office/time management is in shambles. I understand that emergencies come up but the office staff didn't care about my time and treated me very rudely. I had an appointment for 6:30 and wasn't seen for 2 hours. I gave her my insurance card and it says right on it I have a copay. I just assumed that after they let me leave without paying the copay was because they were being considerate to my wasted time waiting to see the doctor obviously not. Dr. Youngren saw me for 15 minutes and charged my insurance $130 and then his office staff sent me a bill for $10 at least 4 separate times. They tried to tell me that the bill is out of their hands which is a lie. I called the office and tried to appeal to their business sense but they were to short sighted and would rather $10 than satisfy a disgruntled customer. I would recommend anyone else to go to Premier Urology Group, they have offices in Garwood, Cranford, Edison, Kearny and elsewhere. I'm very… disappointed in this company and think they have a lot to learn in customer service.

I suffered from testicular pain and atrophy and went to consult Youngren for help. He dismissed my concerns and doubted what I had to say about my symptoms. While conducting a physical, he had little consideration for my discomfort and yanked on my testicles. I was in pain, but trusted him at the time as a doctor that knew what he was doing. He saw my reaction and said "that doesn't actually hurt, does it?". It hurt. He dismissed my condition as paranoia. Would not recommend.

I have been going to Dr. Youngren for years. He's great. Never feel rushed like so many other offices. Recommend him highly
