Why I chose to pursue a career in healthcare:Growing up in Liberia, I became very familiar with healthcare disparities and the impact on people and communities. On countless occasions, I helplessly witnessed loved ones suffer due to lack of proper health care during my upbringing. I made it my mission to improve healthcare by becoming a licensed practical nurse, a mental health counselor, a registered nurse, and now a family nurse practitioner. I chose family medicine which would enable me to care for patients of all ages, promote preventative health, and further increase access to healthcare in underserved communities. My background in mental health enables me to take a holistic approach to all patient care for optimal healthcare outcomes. My professional decisions and goals that I have set for myself has been geared towards serving, caring, and improving the lives of others.What I want my patients to know about me:Patients can be confident that when they come to see me, we will …build a therapeutic relationship which is very essential to achieving individualized healthcare goals. This therapeutic relationship involves active listening, empathy/compassion, and working together as a team. Patients can expect that part of their care would involve education so that they can take an active role in preventing, improving and/or maintaining their health. In addition, I am a strong proponent of evidence-based medicine. Patients can be assured that they are going to be receiving high quality care at all times. What I do when I'm not seeing patients:I love spending time with my wife and two children. We enjoy going to the restaurants, movies, cooking and visiting our family/friends. I enjoy being active and playing soccer. My son and I love to play video games as well. At times, I do DJ at various social gatherings including weddings/parties. Finally, I enjoy reading, and being up to date about the current world events/sports.
