Dr. Kristen Parker Broderick, MD

Too much of a nightmare to write here. Infection, failed reconstruction, terrible care and judgment. A sparkling personality does not make a quality surgeon. I've since found someone who has left me looking and feeling better than even prior to the two year nightmare I experienced due to breast cancer and Dr. Broderick. I do not recommend her for breast reconstruction at all.

I had a nipple-sparing bilateral mastectomy followed by tissue expander placement at age 21 done by Dr.Broderick. This was in 2018. I am currently still having reconstructions (on my 5th) to fix the damage done by Dr.Broderick. The last appointment I had with her she stated, "I guess we were a little off" after pushing aside my concerns regarding the appearance of my breasts during tissue expansion. What she meant was that the tissue expander that was placed on the right was at least 2cm off of center and thus, my breast expanded to the side instead of straightforward. I have since had to have my areolas redone since the right one no longer had an outer boundary. The skin was so damaged I have permanent skin rippling on the side of the breast that will never go away. When I finally went for a second opinion, the doctor immediately suggested removing some of the volume due to the stress on the skin and that stress causing more skin damage. This is the short version of the story. I am… 26 now. I was never called or checked in on by anyone at Johns Hopkins. I called to cancel any further appointments and told them due to the horrible quality of care I had been getting and the woman at the desk said, "Ok" and that was all. I was not offered a survey of care by Hopkins or any kind of follow up related to being a patient of Susans. I went in assuming Johns Hopkins would have great care and great results, and learned the hard way. Do your own DD and maybe seek private care if you're able to.

Dr. B is the plastic surgeon I chose to perform my breast reconstruction after my mastectomy. She listens to my wants and advised me based on her experience. She was funny, approachable and realistic. Dr.B, Laura (PA) and her nursing staff at both offices are warm and helpful and genuinely treat you with care. I highly recommend her to anybody looking for expert and personable care. I am sooo pleased with my new boobs and I have Dr. Broderick and team to thank for returning my body image back to positive.

Dr. Broderick gave me all my options and answered all my questions before my bilateral mastectomies and staged reconstruction and more recently during my bilateral free flap reconstruction. She kept a close watch over me along with my other surgeon to make sure my flaps survived the initial 24-48 hours, but continued to stay in contact with me after I was discharged. My surgery was more difficult then the average women's, but I knew of all the possible options and what may need to be done during the surgery. I felt very comfortable and safe with Dr. Broderick in charge of my case. I would encourage anyone needing breast surgery, especially if it relates to breast cancer, to see her first. Thank you Dr. Broderick, I love my new look.

I have no idea what that other patient is talking about! Dr. Broderick IS in fact microsurgery trained, including doing a fellowship for it. She makes it obvious that she cares immensely about each of her patients and takes whatever time is needed to achieve good outcomes. Unfortunately with any flap surgery, there is always a chance for flap loss even after a long surgery (it can be longer if it’s tricky and she tries whatever she can to make it work) and she made that very clear at my consultation. I couldn’t be happier with her and her BREAST team.
