Dr. Kristen Donna Mailand, DO

I had been seeing Dr. Kristen Mailand since she started working for Stonybrook Family Medicine. I too was very fond of her and thought she was not only a caring doctor, but a caring person. I noticed a lot of her patients have been coming to her defense on other sites and reviewing her after my initial review and I probably would have done the same. I am glad to hear that she is doing her job and taking care of her patients. That was not my experience and I hope no one ever has to go through what she did to my family. I trusted her with my children, my husband and my very sick and elderly parents. My father became ill with a recurring infection that she was well aware of. She knew and understood he needed immediate attention when this happens. I called the office for five hours and begged the staff for her to get on the phone. They kept telling me she was busy seeing other patients and that she had received my message and would get back to me when she could. He was not doing well, he… needed antibiotics, I needed guidance. Not only were we in the middle of tropical storm Isasis, I feared calling an ambulance because we were in the middle of a pandemic and hospitals were not the best place to be for the elderly. I went as far as driving to the office in the middle of the storm with trees falling in front of me and traffic lights malfunctioning, just so I could get a hard copy of the prescription in my hand. They shut down all communication with me. They locked the doors as if I was a threat, not taking into consideration that I was emotionally charged and scared that my father wouldn’t make it and they wouldn’t take my calls and, in my opinion neglected to offer care to my father. I was left with no other choice but to call the ambulance. He was in the hospital for two weeks. I almost lost him. Never once did Dr. Kristen Mailand reach out to check up on my father. Not one call. He was in the same hospital she is affiliated with and she was his Primary Care Physician in the computer, so they contacted the office to let her know he was there. So please stop trying to tell me that my experience isn’t my truth. As the saying goes, it only matters when it happens to you and I pray it never happens to any of her other patients.

Dr. Mailand is a very knowledgeable and experienced physician. She always takes time to see her patients and is never in a rush to finish a visit. My visit with Dr. Mailand was exceptional, great bedside manner, she cares about the wellbeing of her patients and is easy to talk to, I felt very comfortable talking with her about my medical history. I can not recommend Dr. Mailand enough!
