Dr. Kristie Koehler, MD

My children are very comfortable with her. It makes going to the doctors much easier.

I recently gave birth to my first child at the Grayling Mercy Hospital. After 30+ hours of labor, my partner and I welcomed our baby into the world. It was the most incredible experience of my life, and possibly one of the most traumatic thanks to Dr. Koehler. In order to be discharged from the hospital our baby needed to produce one wet, and one dirty diaper for the doctor within 24 hours (you are required to log every diaper when your baby is in your possesion and the nurses are to do the same). Dr. Koehler had told us that our baby had not had a wet diaper within the 24 hours and would need an ultrasound to make sure that everything was functioning properly. The ultrasound tech. came into our room and about an hour later Dr. Koehler came into our room and told us that our baby didn't have a bladder. My partner and I were absolutely crushed. She told us that there were additional tests that we could have done but the outcome didn't look good. She left me and my partner crying in the… room with no sympathy for our situation.We had the additional testing done desperate for a different result. The whole time that my baby was away from me during the tests I couldn't help but think 'Wouldn't this have shown up in her initial ultrasounds?'. There were so many questions that we had that Dr. Koehler wasn't willing to answer. I have never been to a doctor who was less personable. Hours had went by since we had the second round of tests ran and I had expected to have heard something from Dr. Koehler by then. I repeatedly asked the nurses when she would be back to give us the results. She never came back. Finally one of the nurses received the results. We were elated to find out that our baby did, in fact, have a bladder and everything was function properly. We later found out that our baby had produced three wet diapers while in the care of the nurses overnight (which had been written in her chart). Dr. Koehler never read her chart; she never checked with the nurses that had been working. I was so devastated about almost losing my child that, as a result i suffered from a form of postpartum depression. Even after we were home from the hospital, I cried, sobbed, about the thought of losing my baby. This could have been prevented had simply Dr. Koehler read her chart, yet she was quick to give my baby a death sentence. After we found out that everything was alright with my baby the nurses had apologized for Dr. Koehlers lack of compassion. Three months later any my baby is doing great, my family has been really supportive getting me through my postpartum depression. Simply put I would never recommend anyone taking their child to see this woman.
