Kumar Vivek, MD

Kumar Vivek, MD, is Director, Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesia Fellowship Program and Assistant Professor, Anesthesiology at Montefiore Einstein. He has clinical expertise in providing anesthesia care for patients undergoing advanced cardiothoracic surgeries and procedures.After earning his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery at All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, India in 2006, Dr. Vivek completed a general surgery internship at the University of Pennsylvania in 2008. He then came to Montefiore Einstein, where he completed an additional general surgery internship in 2012, followed by his anesthesiology residency in 2015, where he was Chief Resident in his final year. Dr. Vivek remained here to complete a cardiothoracic anesthesiology fellowship in 2016 and an innovation bio-design training program fellowship in 2022.Dr. Vivek’s research has been widely published in peer-reviewed journals on topics including inflammatory responses in robotic coronary …artery bypass grafting compared to conventional surgery, predictors of mortality in COVID-19 patients and islet transplantation. He has also conducted research on graduate medical education training techniques as well as the impact of residency training level on postoperative outcomes. Dr. Vivek has given several invited presentations at prestigious scientific conferences.Dr. Vivek is board certified in Anesthesiology, Advanced Perioperative Transesophageal Echocardiography and holds testamur status in Adult Comprehensive Echocardiography. He is a member of many professional organizations, including the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA), the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists (SCA) and the International Liver Transplantation Society (ILTS), among others. Dr. Vivek has won numerous awards for his work, including the Leo M. Davidoff Society Award in 2015 for outstanding achievement in the teaching of medical students, the Montefiore Einstein Anesthesiology Excellence Award in Education in 2022 and the Montefiore Einstein Anesthesiology Academic Night Research Award in 2023.
