He should have never have agreed to do a bilateral knee replacement on an 85 year old even if another family member asked.Doc should have known better. Nothing but complications x two. Dad never made it back home and had to live in skilled nursing for the remainder of his life. This was in 2010

Pain-free hips for 15 years. Dr. Kurt Merkel replaced my left hip in 2005 and my right hip in 2009. It was the best decision I ever made to choose Dr. Merkel as my surgeon. I have been able to do all the things I wanted to do without pain. Thank you, Dr. Merkel.

Extremely arrogant. Rushed not helpful

Dr. Merkel is the absolute best. No other do tor can give a cortisone injection like him. In addition, he is a kind and caring person. There is no doc better than him.

Dr Kurt Merkel rushed my knee replacement and never took out the screws from a earlier surgery. This error caused a fracture in my leg so the replacement never adhered to the bone. I have had to have a second replacement. Worst experience! I am in paid every day.

Researched Dr Merkel, was impressed, went for help with knee pain, he injected Cortisone twice, didn't work, went back for 3 injections, one week apart of Hyalgen. He put all 3 injections into knee at once, after me waiting a week for insurance approval for 3 consecutive injections and being called by HIS OFFICE saying insurance approved. When I asked him why he did that, he told me, AFTER HE DID IT, that was the only way insurance would pay. After Hyalgen didn't work, I called my insurance inquiring as to why it was approved THAT way and was told "If request from Dr Merkel's office had been submitted for 3 consecutive injections, it would have been approved but request was submitted for 1 large injection so that was approved ". Now I no longer trust Dr Merkel or his personnel and am looking for a different orthopedic surgeon for knee replacement. How can I trust to have surgery when a simple insurance request went so wrong? I can't.

Dr Merkle has performed one hip replacement and two total knee replacements, all successful. I highly recommend him. He is a caring, knowledgeable and competent surgeon. He is not "pushy" but gives you the facts, pro and con, and lets you make the decision.

I had a very bad experience with Dr. Merkel. Here it is 3 years later and I had to have my 6th surgery since he operated the first two times!!!1

The best doctor I've ever been to!

I don't know how De. Merkel could be any better.
