Dr. Kyle Young Echols, MD

Dr. Echols is a wonderful psychiatrist. He is thoughtful with his prescribing and modifying medications. He is compassionate and dedicated to improving his patient's lives.

Dr Echols was fine my first two appointments then as he adjusted my medications and I got worse, he started to misunderstand every symptom I reported as symptoms of conditions I don’t have. As I became worse, I became suicidal and he told me I was being too “sensitive” and was “catastrophing” the situation. The most upsetting thing is that this man sees children and specializes in bipolar and depressed adults.

I feel like I have had a good patient/doctor relationship with Dr. Echols. I have been seeing him for over 15 years with Adult ADD/inattention issuses. We tried several different medication options before staying with one long term. He manages my situation quite well. Be aware, sometimes there may be a wait for him. It's fairly infrequent.

Dr. Echols has been a blessing to our family.

Dr. Echols saved my life. He diagnosed a GI problem that 12 other doctors missed.(I wasn't even going to him for the GI problem) He is a gift from God. He is confident in his decisions which gives me confidence as well.

Dr. Echols takes a very common sense approach and truly listens to me when I tell him how I feel. He is very good at addressing my concerns. I have had great progress with his help.

I would advise all concerned parents to steer well clear of Dr.Echols. In my case, he misdiagnosed my child. He prescribed an antidepressant for him to treat what he misdiagnosed as a simple anxiety disorder, and when my child subsequently became clearly suicidal, Dr. Echols dismissed that reaction. (There's a black box warning on those medications for good reason.) My child had carved words into his flesh and Dr Echols dismissed that behavior as "trendy." The last I spoke to him, in an emergency phone call, he suggested that my child be hospitalized. He never followed up. Never even called to see what had transpired and certainly didn't contact the hospital to arrange for admission. I was on my own. I found a new psychiatrist who gave a proper diagnosis and who explained why antidepressants sometimes produce manic symptoms in children with family histories of bipolar disorder. (I had mentioned this family history every single time I visited Dr. Echols, but he arrogantly dismissed that… information and suggested that it would be better if I left the diagnosis to him.) Every professional I talked to at the hospital and afterwards, was appalled that a psychiatrist would dismiss suicidal ideation in a self-mutilating adolescent. Stay away from Dr. Echols. He will only spend about five minutes with your kid anyway, at which time he will make a snap judgment which will be impermeable to correction in the light of new information. I think he is dangerous. There are only a few good ones out there. Do your homework and be careful.
