Dr. Kim Anne Kanaly

I was a patient at Dr. Kanaly‘s office for a year, however due to a recent experience I will no longer be going to this practice. I came into the office with abdominal pain and severe discomfort. I saw Dr. Kanaly who did a thorough examination and prescribed me a medication as well as an ultrasound to further determine what was going on. After my appointment, I went over to Crown Valley imaging Center to have my ultrasound and once that has been completed I headed over to pavilions pharmacy. Unfortunately, the pharmacy did not have the prescription in stock. Upon discovering that the prescription was going to take a couple days to receive and that it was double the cost, I called the doctors office to request that they change the prescription to the less expensive and readily available version. Theresa the front desk associate, told me that this would not be a problem and that it would be called in by the end of the day. I called the pharmacy 15 minutes before they closed and there was… no word of any prescription. The pharmacy also informed me that they had reached out to the physicians office on my behalf but they were unable to get in-touch anyone. They also expressed their frustration that there is no option for Pharmacy on their phone menu. Ultimately, the new prescription was never sent in and the office never called the pharmacy back, so I went another day without the antibiotics that I needed. The next morning, I called the office at 8 AM when they opened but the phones were off until 8:30 that morning. I spoke with Theresa again requesting that the prescription be called in and that the nurse practitioner Annelies calls me with the results of my ultrasound. Teresa assured me that she would follow up again. Annelies called and informed me that I had an ovarian cyst. I know nothing about this so I began asking several questions which seemingly annoyed her. In the end she simply instructed me to use a heating pad and take Tylenol and if I can't handle the pain anymore I should go to the ER. The entire time we were speaking I felt as though I was a burden to her because of the brevity of her answers. Anyway, I also checked with her to make sure that the new form of my prescription was called into the pharmacy-she reassured me that it had been. I waited two hours and went to my pharmacy assuming that after 4 phone calls this would have been corrected. It was not. I immediately called the office to rectify the problem but they were on lunch, so I left a message. Since I could not go a second night without these antibiotics, and in a fear that my infection was going to get worse, I decided it best to have this conversation in person with the staff. I got in my car and drove 40 minutes round-trip (20 minutes there and 20 minutes home) to ensure that I received the medication that I needed. I presented the front the office with my problem and they started pointing fingers at each other and each of them denied knowing anything. Finally some one took initiative and discovered that the electronic prescriptions that they had sent were being rejected and no one had realized. This seems like a huge flaw in their operations. I decided to wait at the office until they sent the prescription to my local pharmacy and then I called the pharmacy to confirm that they received the correct prescription. Before leaving I canceled my future appointment with Dr. Kanaly and requested a copy of my medical records so that I could transfer to another office that would be able to take of me when I'm in need. The most disheartening part of my encounter at the office was that no one apologized that I had fallen through the cracks. If someone would’ve admitted that the ball had been dropped and apologized it would’ve diffused my frustration and anger immediately. I, too, am in healthcare and have prided myself on treating patients with the utmost sympathy and respect. Unfortunately I did not feel that at this office and can no longer trust them with my medical care no matter how much I like Dr. Kanaly.

No issue with Dr. Kanaly. Huge issues with communication with the office and getting message to and from Dr Kanaly. So many mix ups that I not longer trust the level of care and will be seeking an alterative clinic.
