Dr. Laina Ewan Crowthers, MD

I had an extremely traumatic and negligent experience with Dr. Laina Crowthers during my delivery at Women & Infants Hospital. Despite being over 55 hours post-rupture with clear signs of infection and stalled labor, my repeated requests for a C-section were dismissed. Dr. Crowthers told me she “had other patients coming to her office at 7:30 and couldn’t be made late” because of my need for updates. She minimized my and my family’s concerns about my baby’s erratic heart rate, claiming we were "making the situation worse" by asking questions. Critical interventions were delayed, and her refusal to consider a C-section during my third night in labor was far below the standard of care. Every doctor I’ve seen since delivery has been shocked that I was allowed to labor for three days after my water broke. After developing a fever over 102°F at the start of day three, Dr. Crowthers insisted I was progressing and refused to consider a C-section I desperately asked for through the entire… experience, urging me to continue. As a result, my baby suffered preventable injuries. I would not recommend Dr. Crowthers to anyone seeking attentive, compassionate, or competent medical care.

She has helped me out many times. She’s made sure that when there was a problem that she got me in right away. She is warm and charismatic. She’s is easy to talk to and is extremely knowledgeable. She makes the visit comfortable and as painless as possible. I have been seeing her for roughly nine years now. I am very lucky to have her as my doctor.

This Doctor plays games and chooses so many of us to go in for biopsy. She has med students that she teaches at women and infants and we are the test rats that go in This procedure cost me out of pocket dearly that I knew for no reason I should of even had this done which she played me that could of simply been done in her office!! She is a Snake Beware!!

The staff are unprofessional and rude (with the exception of Emily whom is excellent). Every time I went for prenatal visits there was an issue. I received another patients appointment dates and info (HIPAA) and had to set up my own growth scan/anatomy US along with further appointments as I was overlooked. I specifically asked the old woman on my way out I needed an appointment, was told I was all set. When the doctor told me I had nothing on file, I explained the situation, was brushed off, and went to the desk. The same old woman (who has no people skills) snarled and said "you should've done this a long time ago". I'm a medical assistant, I know how it works. I also showed up at the office in tears looking for advice when in pain and was rudely told BY THE DOCTOR HERSELF IN PERSON to seek care at a treatment center. Luckily, being in the medical field, I knew not to waste my time. $125 ER bill when simple advice would have sufficed. They make you see every doctor there who all give… very different opinions. Do not reccomend. Dr Kokturk from Partners ended up delivering and was everything I needed. Will be switching!

If not for this amazing woman I would not have my beautiful 5 month old son. She removed my 11 cm fibroid thus giving me the chance to conceive successfully. She performed my c section and was compassionate and kind the entire time. I was trying to wait another month or two post surgery to conceive but things went differently and she gave me no grief about it. This woman is inspiring.

I went to this lady for years even after I changed jobs and it was no longer close. I made the trip through out my pregnancy but only saw her twice due to her offices policy. That felt very impersonal but I was determined to have do my c-section as I trusted her. Two days before my section her office called to say she had been put on bed rest and someone else would do my section. I was stressed by this news and sad she did not call herself but I assumed her pregnancy was not going well. Imagine my surprise at the hospital while waiting to go in for my section, there she was standing in surgical scrubs chatting happily with another doctor. I went to talk to her but I was slower and clearly more pregnant than her swift footed self. I felt so betrayed. Some body lied to me. I am not sure she is trustworthy. I felt like a fool.

This has to be one of the worst dr. offices that I have EVER dealt with. I moved from another state to RI about 4 years ago. I have had a total of 4 visits in the office for yearly exams and a emergency appointment. The Dr. I actually saw was Dr. Crowthers and I had no problem with her at all. My first appointment we went in her office and we spoke about my past history and what I was looking for. So the first appointment was great no issues / concerns to report. Then it comes to year 2â?¦I have my annual exam done and I am told that I will be able to call and check on my results. When I called to check on the results I was told that I needed to call and speak with the dr. directly. Wow this is comfortingâ?¦they wonâ??t tell me anything! I make a call out to the dr. and I leave a message with Roberta. 2 days go by and no call back so I called again. Roberta gave an attitude and wanted to know why I wanted to talk to the dr. I explained that I was calling to get my test results.… She place me on hold came back and said everything was fine. 3 days after that I got 2 voicemails from the dr. and that it was urgent that I call her backâ?¦.i called back and had to leave another message that went unreturned for 4 days. I then got a letter in the mail stating that I needed to call the office in regards to my test results and they have not been able to get in contact with me. Thatâ??s funny because Roberta told me that I was FINE. I called again and demanded to stay on hold until the dr. was available. Finally was able to speak with the dr. who told me that she never got any of my messages and that Roberta was incorrect with looking at my files. Thankfully I am not dying and needed just to have some retesting doneâ?¦.but still very unsettling when you were told that you were ok. Fast forward to needing to go into the drs office for an emergency visitâ?¦I was not able to see the dr. that I normally see as she was out of the office (understandable) so I saw another dr. who I am not even sure of his name. This dr. asked me what my issue was and told me that I was over reacting and that my â??issueâ?? was normal. I will spare all details!! He didnâ??t even look at my area of concern, said that I had nothing to freak out about. No meds no nothingâ?¦2 weeks later get a bill for $75â?¦for what I am not sure!! Iâ??ve had enough. I canâ??t stand the office, I can not stand the staff. If my dr. were in another practice I might think about staying. I want to have a child next year and I would not trust them to take care of me and my unborn child. So I called and told them that I would not be staying with the practice. The woman on the phone demanded to know whyâ?¦so I told her. I told that her attitude is one of the exact reasons. I told her that there practice needs a lot of work and that I needed to change drs. My new dr. office asked that I request that they send over my records. So I sent a faxed requestâ?¦10 days later I received a bill for $19.50 to get my records sent. Ummmmmm really ?!?!?! This is absurd!! I called the office the moment I got the letter and left a message for the billing manager to call me. She called me and gave me an attitude right at the start of the call. Telling me that it is not her rules and that she doesnâ??t make the rules. She continuously interrupted me and told me I needed to pay it and I can take my issues up with the manager. Ok I paid it. My bp is not worth it to fight with them anymore. Yesterday I called as I needed a new script from them as my new appointment is not for 3 weeks. Barbara called me and rudely told me she will call me in a 1 month but that is it. Went to the pharmacy after work last night and you can probably guessâ?¦no meds were called in. I have given them the benefit of the doubt and still nothing has been called into the pharmacy. I just canâ??t take the stress and will NEVER go to this group again. Steer Clear of Broadway OB GYN.

Very easy to talk to and very caring, has called on off hours to check and see how I was doing best doctor. She also delivered my daughter best bedside manner.
