Dr. Lalanica J Chandrasekera, MD

Dr. Lalanica Chandrasekera truly is a monster, and I would advise anyone expecting a baby to avoid her. I was a newly pregnant patient of Dr. Chandrasekera’s last year when I unfortunately lost my baby. I was devastated. During my follow up visit after I miscarried, she was very cold and disconnected. Before she left the room, she told me she would no longer be taking me as her patient. She did not give a reason. Just walked out. I guess my crying over the baby I lost added a bit of unwanted unpleasantness to her day. Every jaw in the room dropped and everyone I tell this story to is speechless. My parents and husband were all there with me and they were all shocked (and outraged, of course). What a truly horrific way to treat a woman who has just gone through this, let alone, your patient. I decided to let everything pass the natural way which caused the miscarrying process to prolong. Because of this I missed a few weeks of work and the HR department at the company I worked for at… the time sent over a medical leave form for her to sign - it was very standard. After receiving it, Dr. Chandrasekera called me directly to tell me she would not sign it because “you can still work after a miscarriage”. Mind you, at this point in time I was still bleeding so much that I could not leave the toilet for more than a few minutes. Luckily my employers were very understanding of the situation especially after I explained how I had been treated by her. Dr. Chandrasekera is extremely immature and inexperienced. Although she is I’m sure well trained medically, she does not have the experience, maturity, professionalism, or empathy that is required for treating and supporting patients who are experiencing a major life event such as a pregnancy, birth, or a miscarriage. This was already the worst experience of my life and it should have been handled very differently by my doctor. Doctors treat their patients. Through the good AND the bad. They don’t get to pick and choose and toss the ones to the side that aren’t fun anymore. We are not your dolls, we are real people. ALL women deserve better than this.
