My daughter was diagnosed with trisomy 18. Weeks before she was born my boyfriend and I were having a discussion with him about what kind of comfort care I wanted for her. I started by saying that I wanted to to receive oxygen if needed. He responded by telling me a long story about his cousin by pregnant. Her baby wasn't going to make it. She opted for no care and let her baby die. He told me that he cousin was a much stronger person than I was because I wanted my baby to live. I left there in tears. 2 weeks later my daughter was born. She did not need oxygen. She did not die. He barely looked at her and said that he didn't need to weigh her because it did not matter. Long story short... this man is very uncompassionate when it comes to hard decisions being made by parents. I understood that my daughter would most likely die shortly after birth. I just wanted her as comfortable as possible. On a positive note, she did not die and is now almost 5 months old!
