It is disturbing to all interested parties to see a comment to appear on this site regarding a case I was involved in more than 10 years ago. The person who wrote the comment may have had unjustified beliefs and unfortunately she may still be mislead the outcome of the illness of her once infant son. Hamartoma is a benign tumor. It is not cancerous. It did not cause diarrhea. It was not felt on physical exam because it was just as soft as the spleen itself, which is an organ typically not felt. The spleen is localized underneath the rib cage. To be able to feel it, it has to be considerably large and firm. Or Otherwise one would have to break ribs through to feel it on physical examination. It was found when a CT scan was done. An irradiation diagnostic examination that in itself at the moment carried the risk of increasing this child’s lifetime risk of any cancer by about 30%. Removing the spleen the surgeon left him immune compromised for life. By the way, autism screening by… administration of MCHAT questionnaire is standard procedure in our practice. I will seek remedy on defamation ground!!!
