Absolutely disappointed with our experience with Dr. Laura Benike. As a mother, you rely on your pediatrician to listen, take your concerns seriously, and guide you with compassion — unfortunately, that was not the case here. From the start, I raised concerns about a clicking sound my baby made while drinking. I was told it was completely normal and a sign she was feeding well. Trusting my instincts, I sought a second opinion — turns out her it’s not normal and something that should have been caught earlier. I also asked about a visible bump above her belly button, and was told it was “just because newborns are small.” We are now being referred to a specialist for a hernia. Both of these issues were brushed off, and both turned out to be valid concerns. On top of the dismissive care, Dr. Benike made me feel rushed at every appointment, like my time and concerns didn’t matter. After our family was hit with norovirus and we missed a hearing appointment, she referred to me as a no-show… and lectured me on the importance of not missing it — incredibly insensitive and unkind to a mom recovering with a newborn and a sick household. I left every visit feeling unheard and judged. We will absolutely not be returning. Trust your gut — and if you’re not being listened to, find someone who will.

My 2-year-old grandson was seen by Laura Benike, NP, yesterday. He was throwing up for several days, had stomach pain, and was fatigued. Ms. Benike spoke directly to him and scolded him and told him if he didn't drink and eat, he would be going to the hospital and his parents would be in trouble and he wouldn't get to be with them. Then she told his parents to ignore him when he cried about his belly hurting. He was scared to look at her so she used her hand to lift his chin when she was talking to him. This is unacceptable treatment for all patients, especially a 2-year-old. He was not feeling well and was confused about what was going on, and now a stranger is scolding him about throwing up and feeling pain and being told he won't see his parents. This is a horrible experience for him. Ms. Benike is a healthcare provider and she should treat everyone with care, compassion, and empathy. I understand that many healthcare providers are overworked and overstressed, but that does not give… her the right to treat an innocent 2-year-old the way she did. Last night, he was admitted to the hospital. Because of the warning from Ms. Benike about him going to the hospital and not being able to be with his parents, he gets frantic if his mom tries to leave his hospital room.
