Dr. Laura George Gitlin, MD

Dr Gitlin (female) seemed wonderful but her front office is the worst. Negative comments, attitudes, do not return calls, make outlandish statements, just overall negative experience with them! Don’t bother complaining or trying to talk to them about it, I have looked at reviews on other sites and it’s a serious issue. She must still be making the $$$ because they stand behind those ladies who treat ppl like trash.

It has now been almost a month since my doctor sent the first and second referral that were "not received" would not confirm fax number for me to give doctor to try again. Now weeks later i am told that the doctor has not "reviewed referral" and they will call in a few weeks about setting up an appointment. In addition my husband had a colonoscopy with this doctor last week. The initial doctor's appointment was with three other people and i believe everyone was charged for a regular doctor's appointment. We were told to be at the surgery center at 8:00am he was called back for the procedure at 10:30-11:00. The receptionist at the surgery center told "she likes to have all her patients arrive earlier, line them up and then get started. No regard for patients time or the time of the people who have agree to drive the patient. There were problems with the procedure and more than a week later and two phone calls "not sure when Doctor will be able to make an appointment to decide next step"

Office staff is worst I have worked with. After waiting a month for an appointment and being a lot of pain, I called to see if they had a cancellation, which they did. They move me up a week. But when I arrived they did not have me scheduled nor did they have my original appointment on the books. I then began to get the run around saying I couldn’t have an appointment for they had no reference material from a primary care doctor. This was the first I had heard of this after several conversations with Dr. Laura Gitlin’s staff. Dr. Gitlin may be a good doctor but if she can’t manage her on staff, why would anyone on earth thing she could manage their health.

Dr. Gitlan performed 3 colonoscopys and 1 endoscopy on me. Besides removing 3 polyps she discovered a small hyatal hernia. She carefully explained the pros and cons of different treatments. She treated me with respect--one reasonable adult to another.

Dr. Laura Gitlin demonstrates superior knowledge and skills in the field of gastroenterology in combination with a patient-centered caring approach. A rare find these days.

She is an amazing doctor. She takes the time to understand how you feel and whats really going on.

Dr. Gitlin does a decent job but her staff is the worst. My wife just had a routine procedure that the billing manager billed as diagnostic. My insurance company asked her to change the coding, but the manager refused. Cost to me $900.00. Lied about getting laboratory preauthorization from my insurance company. They never called my insurance company. Full cost of lab sent to me. Cost $875.00. She's lost me & my family as patient's, and I'll never give her a good recommendation.

Upon reporting on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday as directed by front office staff to complete preliminary paperwork and other routine matters prior to a colonoscopy which Dr. Gitlin has conducted on myself on at least two other occasions over the course of six or more years, I was shut-down immediately with the following: "You have an HMO; the doctor does not accept HMO's. I immediately called my insurer and was told by customer service, "You have a PPO, not an HMO." Upon sharing this with the front desk, I was told again, "You have an HMO; the doctor does not accept HMO's. I requested that the front desk staffer speak with customer service which she less than enthusiastically did after which she stated, "The doctor does not have a contract with your insurer," or something equally confounding. To be honest, I was handed the names of two other gastroenterologists in the area, one I promptly made an appointment with for the colonoscopy which will soon be overdue. … Professional courtesy can go a long way in easing a situation directly affecting a patient because of contractual negotiations or changes in insurance coverage. Past treatment, exams, diagnoses, follow-ups have been all exemplary. I'm at a loss to explain how or why this seemingly allergic reaction came about.

Front office seems annoyed and rude and can't be bothered when a patient calls. Would not recommend this doctor's office. Very matter-of-fact. Doctor does not give complete information on treatment. Patient's new to this problem do not know what to ask.
