Dr. Laura Anne Gross, MD

It’s been nearly four weeks since my virtual appointment with Dr. Gross and I still haven’t been referred to a spine clinic or a back doctor. I have been dealing with back pain for over thirty years, for the last few years I’ve have 1 or 2 episodes per year. I kind of know the routine and I would hope I could partner with my doctor in my treatment. This recent “back episode” was the worst since my surgery in 2001. I am still in pain and still not all the way back to full health. I used a virtual call with Dr. Gross because, although I could walk a little, there was no way I could make it to an appointment. I couldn’t put on shoes, I could NOT sit in a car (I can now, thank god) and I couldn’t walk very far. I did not feel like Dr. Gross took me seriously. She denied me the proper medicine, she advised against an MRI, she did not get me a follow appointment with the spine clinic, she never followed up to see how I was doing. I believe she didn’t care and/or she didn’t take me… seriously. She DID take time to tell me not to drink alcohol with baclofen. I am a nearly 50 year old professional who was calling from my bed with my wife next to me and she thought she needed to make that point. It was an insult. I was in so much pain when I met her and I ended the call feeling worse. She made me feel like I had done something wrong. It was (in my opinion) horrible patient care. It’s been almost four weeks, and I am now angry. My former doctor was great, but he retired…. Although I appreciate her taking a call at 8pm (although it proved unhelpful) and I truly respect her chosen profession, I think Dr. Gross came off (to me) as dismissive and unhelpful. I don’t want ANYONE to suffer bad back pain (I really don’t) but I feel like if Dr Gross suffered very bad back pain and couldn’t walk or sleep from the pain she would humble herself a little and take her patients need for care more seriously.

She was wonderful. Very patient and caring. Took plenty of time to listen to me and offer solutions to my issues. I have never had a long wait so far and the office staff is prompt and curteous. I've been extremely pleased with her care for me and my family.

Dr. Gross has been my doctor since she started at Stanford a couple of years ago. She is amazing. I am so glad I found her. She always listens to me, is very personable, has a great bedside manner. I even recommended her to a friend who has had similar experiences.
