Dr. Laura Ispas, MD

Due to a change in insurance, I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Laura Ispas to establish care for ongoing management of an immunodeficiency. Prior to my first appointment, my previous immunologist sent a detailed summary of my workup and treatment, and the office confirmed receipt. During the visit, however, Dr. Ispas stated multiple times that she had not reviewed the records. I ultimately had to pull them up on my phone for her to review in real time, yet my established diagnosis—based on extensive testing over the course of a year—was still questioned, including suggestions that prior lab results could have been inaccurate. She also expressed doubt about my diagnosis before my newly ordered lab panel had resulted, and without having reviewed my prior records, which was concerning given the complexity of my case. I felt dismissed throughout the visit. My history of prolonged and recurrent infections was not meaningfully addressed, and the discussion shifted toward pursuing a new… biopsy despite an already thorough evaluation, including prior testing and procedures leading to diagnosis. She also made multiple comments regarding the cost of my treatment and referenced other patients being in greater need, which I found concerning in the context of my care. At one point, she left the room and returned with a laptop and an additional individual joining via video. The laptop was immediately positioned toward me while I was visibly distressed, and the exam room door remained open while my medical information was discussed, raising clear privacy concerns. Both appointments also began more than 30 minutes late, without acknowledgment. Overall, the experience reflected a lack of preparation, poor communication, and concerning handling of sensitive medical information. I left feeling defeated and very distressed after my second visit with Dr. Ispas and will be seeking care with an immunologist recommended by my previous provider. I would strongly encourage other patients—especially those with complex or previously established diagnoses—to carefully consider whether this practice is the right fit for their care.

Dr. Laura Ispas at the Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology Institute in Leesburg, VA, provided an incredibly unprofessional and hostile experience. The front desk lost my referral, repeatedly hung up on me when I called about unexpected charges, and kept us waiting over an hour. When the doctor finally arrived, she focused on my complaints about her office rather than my daughter’s allergy concerns. She refused to see my child unless I discussed her business practices, then escalated the situation by arguing with both me and my 15-year-old daughter. When we decided to leave, she followed us out, yelling, until my daughter began recording. This behavior was unacceptable—patients deserve respect and professionalism. Avoid this office at all costs.

I had an absolutely horrible experience with Dr. Laura Ispas at the Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology Institute in Leesburg, Virginia. From start to finish, the level of unprofessionalism, disorganization, and outright hostility was beyond anything I have ever encountered in a medical setting. First, the front desk lost my referral. I later received an unexpected text about a $250 deductible, which I do not have to pay under my insurance plan. In an attempt to understand this text I called the front desk where they proceeded to hang up on me three times. Red flag after red flag. When I arrived for my daughter’s allergy testing, we were forced to wait over an hour while Dr. Islas spent 40 minutes flirting with the patient ahead of us—something I could hear clearly from where we were waiting. But that wasn’t even the worst part. When she finally came in, instead of focusing on my daughter’s allergy concerns, she immediately wanted to discuss the complaints I had about her office. Mind… you, by this point, I had already been waiting for an hour and 15 minutes. She outright refused to see my child unless I first told her how she could improve her business practices. Completely unprofessional and inappropriate. I insisted that the medical appointment be focused on my daughter and her needs. However, the doctor disagreed and continued to argue. Then, she actually refused to see my child, so I decided to collect my daughter’s paperwork and that’s when things escalated from her end. This is where my 15 years old daughter decided to intervene. My daughter told her how unprofessional she was behaving. Instead of regaining her composure, Dr. Islas started yelling at my daughter too. At that point, I had to tell her to breathe and stop interrupting. I gave her two clear options: 1. Test my daughter, and afterward, I’d privately explain the issues I had with her office. 2. Refuse to see my child, and I would leave an honest review online. She made her choice. Upon exiting the lobby of her office Dr. Islas started following us out into the hallway as she continued to yell. My daughter actually shut the door to her office upon exiting, but that didn’t stop her—she opened it right back up and followed us down the hallway to the exit, only stopping when she realized my daughter was recording the entire thing. This experience was beyond unprofessional it was downright hostile. No patient, especially a child, should ever be treated this way. If you are considering this office, run in the opposite direction. There are plenty of other allergy specialists in the area who actually respect their patients and their time.

Dr. Ispas is incredibly thorough in reaching a diagnosis. One of the best doctors with whom I have ever engaged. She gets my highest rating.

Dr Ispas and her staff are super nice! I love coming to see them and get my weekly shots. They all make every effort to show that I am important as a patient. Even when they are very busy they still take the time to smile and be friendly. I would definetly recommend this allergy office.

I came in contact with Allergy Asthma Institute by chance and my first impression created by all was great! Very interactive and flexible with scheduling and changing appointments. The treatment was helpful and I am having so far the best spring with regard to my allergies. I forgot to mentioned I started allergy shots close to a year ago. My friends are suffering with allergies now and I am almost symptoms free!

I switched my son to Dr. Ispas almost a year ago. His quality of life improved significantly. Now after a combination of meds including a medication called Xolair and allergy shots he is asthma is very well controlled and spring allergies were minimum this year. All staff wonderful and kind and always willing to help.

My wife and I like this place very much. The staff is so positive, warm and friendly, treatment received is bar none. Keep up the great work Dr. Laura! Thanks for your great care. We would recomand you guys to anyone in a heartbeat!

Excellent! Having moved to Leesburg last year I was looking for a new Allergist and based on a review I decided to see Dr. Ispas. So glad I did. Receptionist was very friendly and easy to schedule appointments, lots of good hours and timeslots as well. The office is very convinient in a nice building with many good doctors. The doctor was very through and I never felt rushed. Seems like a good allergy practice. Thanks to Yelp reviewers for steering me here in the right direction!
