Dr. Laura Adrienne Spanko

I really wanted to like Dr. Spanko but unfortunately my last interaction with her was disheartening to say the least. For my last appointment I was 10 minutes late and I'll take full responsibility for that however what I dont appreciate is being told I'm the next patient she will see (after waiting 30 minutes) and then her deciding to go call a patient and have a 15 minute phone call consultation when she wasnt due to call that patient until later that evening. Well after my appointment. The walls are so paper thin that I could hear the entire conversation, so much for patient confidentiality. When I brought up how long I had been waiting her response was well you were late so I had to take the patients who came on time. Then I let her know that she was supposed to come see me next, per her nurse, but decided to take make a patient phone call that wasn't scheduled yet. I ket her know I knew this information because I could hear through the wall. When I said this she shrugged and… said "well I had to make a call". To which I said to her that I heard her tell that person she was done for the day meanwhile I was still waiting to be seen. Dr. Spanko again shrugged it off and said well we're here now. To make matters worse. She didn't know why we were meeting, when it was her staff that was the one who called me to schedule the appointment based on a question i had that could have been responded to via email. When I expressed my frustration, the 25 copay, the 40 minute wait etc just for her to not know what we were meeting about she didnt seem to understand why I would be bothered and told me she cant just spend her time responding to client messages and that she needed to ask me if I was experiencing any symptoms. The whole experience was disheartening and dismissive. As we left and she walked out the door she said "sorry" . Usually when you apologize, you at least look someone in the eye and sincerely offer an apology for not meeting their needs or expectations. As a Black woman navigating the medical field this is disappointing and yet all too common of an experience (dealing with rude or dismisive providers). I expect better from my healthcare providers. I wont be back and I'm counting down the days to leave Kaiser.
