Dr. Laura Voigt, MD, MD

Great doctor with special needs children!

If you are a hands off parent with no desire to have an opinion or question decisions, she's your doctor. Terrible.

I just moved out of Pittsburgh, and I can't find a pediatrician I like nearly as much as Dr. Voigt. My daughter and I will miss her- she truly cares about her patients, and is an absolute pleasure to talk to.

Dr. Voigt is kind and caring. She is excellent with our two boys (age 5 and 8).

My daughter started with 102 fever. For three days, we have been treating her by alternating acetaminophen and ibuprofen in every 3-4 hours. After three hours of the last medicine we give, she was becoming very uncomfortable again, sometimes shivering because of high fever. She was also complaining about sore throat and she started to throw up. On that morning, she did not have fever anymore. Dr. Voigt saw her. I explained everything as I stated above. Then she asked me what the temperature was. Unfortunately, we did not measure the fever after the first day given that our daughter was very uncomfortable and obviously had high fever. Now, looking back, I wish we had measured her temperature just to make Dr. Voigt believe us. She started lecturing about how harmful it can be to use these medicines and told me about new research findings about the side effects and etc. She put me in a position to defend myself as if I was giving these medicines to my child for no reason.She listened her… chest and back over her clothes. She checked her ears and gave me another lecture about the wax in my daughters ears. She said there is nothing she can do at that point. I asked her what we can do if she has high fever again, and she told me I can use acetaminophen or ibuprofen, which she was lecturing against, to control her fever. She also asked us to see her if my daughter still has fever after 24 hours. Although my daughter had high fever for the last three days, she just decided to send us back without giving a diagnosis. On the same day of our visit, in the afternoon, my daughters body temperature was high again at 102 F (axillary). I do not want to visit the office again because I am afraid Dr. Voigt will not be interested in treating her but ignoring the symptoms.

Dr. Voigt is spectacular. She is very warm and caring to our daughters and always ready to provide additional information if we like. She is also very practical. When our kids were less than enthusiastic about taking calcium supplements, she knew just the brand to recommend.

My experience is consistent with the pregnant mother. I talked with her regarding my ill daughter. She acted like she did not want to be bothered. She lectured me and made my wife cry.

All around terrific pediatrician. Dr. Voigt has a great bedside manner even with sick kids. She listens well, provides accurate diagnoses, and even personally follows up after seeing sick kids. She always gives clear and detailed explanations to parents and is very patient with questions. Additionally, she is very prompt with paperwork required by daycare, insurance companies, etc.

I was around 30 weeks pregnant with my first child, looking for a pediatrician. At first Dr Voigt was very bubbly and pleasant, until I asked about vaccines. I asked about the possibility of splitting up the vaccines instead of getting them all in one visit. She told me that their office does not do that, and why she disagrees with doing that, and went on about how vaccines are perfectly safe and "you get get 10,000 vaccines in one day and it's perfectly safe". I didn't argue, I just asked a few more questions about the vaccines and jotted down some notes about them. She then said "I don't like wasting time discussing vaccines with my patients". I was taken aback, but said "Okay, then lets move on to another topic". She then told me that she did not appreciate me wasting her time, that she did not want to be "micro-managed" and that she has her own kids to get home to. At this point I started crying because I was pregnant and emotional and could not believe how I was being… treated! She then said in a very blase manner "okay, well I've made you cry, so there's no point in continuing this meeting" and left the room!! In hindsite, this experience was a blessing because I would never want such a person caring for my child! And as for her "micro-managed" comment, I may not be a doctor, but I AM the mother and my questions, opinions, and decisions about my childs healthcare should respected, not dismissed!

Dr. Voigt is well-trained, insightful, and has an easy manner of conversation. She's great with kids, and, overall, is a superior pediatrician.
