Dr. Laura Marjean Worrel, MD

Saw a doctor for many years who was an awesome fit for me. Tragic deaths in my family (most recent 16 yo), horrible stress from employer and his wife. Doctor who was an awesome fit left and was going to sign for disability for me. I Could barely function. Dr. Worrel told me she did not believe in disability for mental illness. (I had been diagnosed with three illnesses and now five). I cannot imagine a psychiatrist telling a patient she does not believe in disability for mental illness.

I'm not her patient. But she's denied me treatment. I'm seen by a different doctor. My Doctor has prescribed TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) maintenance treatments. After 38 years of suffering with Depression and trying at least 22 different medications, TMS is the only treatment for Depression that helps me. However, Anthem does not want to pay for maintenance treatments. They are of the opinion that there's no proof that maintenance treatments benefit a patient. Which is false. They will allow 30 treatments per year, but you must receive them within a 90 day period. You are not allowed to spread them out. I need at least 2 treatments per month to maintain the positive affects of TMS. My doctor tried to get prior approval on the Maintenance treatments and Dr. Worrel, who has never examined me, doesn't know me and apparently works for Anthem on the side, has said that this treatment is not medically necessary for me, so Anthem has denied my treatment. It does no good… to file an Appeal because Anthem will assign it to a different doctor that's on their payroll and that doctor will follow in Dr. Worrel footsteps. Medications are being pushed and they don't work for every patient obviously. unfortunately, this how insurers are navigating today to avoid paying claims and Dr. Worrel and others like her are helping them get away with it.

I've seen different psych doctors in my years, and Dr. Worrel is by far one of the best! She very accurately diagnosed me during my first appointment. She's very attentive, kind, and understanding. She really cares about her patients and does everything in her power to make sure they are taken care of. I highly recommend her!

I feel extremely blessed that I have had Dr Worrel as my doctor for around 10 years. She genuinely cares and wants to see me getting better.

She acts concerned, but as soon as you ask questions about your treatment, she becomes defensive, condescending and has a God-complex. She told me a med didn't cause drowsiness and wouldn't listen even after I showed her the bottle that listed - "may cause drowsiness". She'd rather be right than work with you. She thinks medication (her pat formula that she prescribes to everyone - no other options) is the only treatment. Don't be fooled by her fake cheery disposition. It masks the fact that she's self -absorbed, doesn't know the meds she's prescribing and doesn't keep up on current research. Asks her some hard questions, suggest alternative meds and she how she responds. She'll belittle you and act like you're crazy. She's in it for the money & ego - not because she cares.
