Dr. Laurance Folkey Johnson, MD

"Doctor" Johnson was ordered to surrender his medical license in 2019. Prior to him surrendering his license, he was placed on 5 years' probation , for reasons including sexual harassment of a female patient. If he's still in practice, I don't know what kind of license he's working off of. [You can find the 20 page legal document on Johnson if you Google "Dr. Laurance Johnson, disciplinary action, psych search"] In the document it talks about Dr. Johnson telling an inappropriate sexual story to the patient. In the 1980s, when I was 14 or 15 years old, he told me a similar "inappropriate" sexual story. Except the story he told me was about one of his patients. And similarly, what he told me was unrelated to my therapy. There were a number of times over the years that he would tell such stories during my sessions, often using the crudest, most derogatory sexual terms. So he's been doing this for a long time. And he didn't get caught until he was in his 70s. He's been able to have a long… career of exploiting patients, including children, and violating the law.

He hasn't been able to write my prescriptions for 3 monts. Literally. No pad. He's under review is my guess. He is a creep as well. Avoid him.

He is a horrible psychiatrist. PLEASE do not send your child to him. That is the biggest reason I am writing this review. Adults can make up their own mind regarding using him as their therapist, but as an adult myself, I can tell you that he is a horrible, unprofessional therapist. I keep using therapist and psychiatrist interchangably because he does both during his sessions. This is what makes him so harmful. If he were merely a psychiatrist/doctor, then he would not have the horrible after-effects of having a bad experience with him. I went to him for over a year. I liked his practical advice and ignored his unprofessionalism because it didn't seem to be negatively affecting me. However, after finding out that he works with children, I was profoundly disturbed. I was more profoundly disturbed when I got a reply to one of my reviews of him (trying to warn people about his behavior). A woman told me that she worked with him as a child and he did all of the same horribly… unprofessional things he did with me. I should mention that the reason I finally left him as my Psychiatrist is because he eventually came on to me romantically (which I obviously denied), and then proceeded to hang up on me when I confronted him about it on the phone. I felt horrible, because I thought of him as a friend and he abandoned me. I think this is getting too long and probably making making you question whether this was a lone experience. Trust me I got an e-mail from someone else who had the exact same experience, aside from coming on to her. He puts down his other patients, sometimes imitating them, including his adolescent patients (not using their name, but I was still horrified). He uses unprofessional personal stories that I won't even repeat here. Anyway, please don't see him, you will be disturbed (if you are an adult), and PLEASE do not send your child to him.

READ THIS DOCTOR'S HIDDEN YELP REVIEWS. Dr. Johnson must be relieved that the local population has changed so drastically in the last decade. This means many people around town won't be privy to his reputation. Dr. Johnson is by far the worst doctor I've ever come across.

My 8 year old daughter had an obsessive disorder that he diagnosed in one session. Put her on medication. Staff at front is very rude. Had to call him at least 15 times to refill my daughters prescription which now she cannot function without. He forgot and did not have the dosage information so would call me to ask what was on the label, more than once. We spent $200 for less than an hour to listen to him talk about his stories and in the middle of a session he had to call him wife to see if Duke won! He also stood us up for a visit during rush hour, when we live about 35 minutes away. We sat in an empty office for 15 minutes before we were able to reach him. He apparently has been doing this for too long and should probably retire. Repeats stories that have nothing to do with my daughter. I am very upset. To this day still trying to get him to call the prescription provider for refills.
