Dr. Abern is the only doctor I will trust with future pregnancies! I came to her in the middle of my second pregnancy because I wanted a natural birth and my other doctor didn't seem that into it. I grilled her on every topic from episiotimies (she rarely does them only in emergencies) to birthing positions and she patiently answered all my questions. Throughout the pregnancy, she always listened to my concerns and empowered me with the knowledge to make my own decisions about my pregnancy, giving her recommendation but never shoving her opinion down my throat like some other doctors do. But it doesn't end there, because during my delivery she proved how much of a rock star she is. I had placental abruption (placenta separating from uterine wall) during my labor (heavy bleeding), and ANY other doctor would have sent me directly to a c-section. However, she knew how important a natural birth was to me, so she ordered blood tests, ultrasound for the baby, everything needed to ensure… everything was okay and I could continue laboring (she did say she would have to send me to a c section if there were any indicators of an issue, but the fact that she gave it a CHANCE instead of sending me directly to a c section made all the difference in the world). In the end I was able to have the natural birth I wanted, and during the hardest part of labor, she gently reminded me that my birth plan was to push in a kneeling position - most doctors don't even remember your birth plan a second after you show it to them, but she is DIFFERENT!! After she had been on call and awake for more than 30 hours she came to visit me and see how I was doing, before she went home to sleep! She is an amazing doctor and the only one here in South Florida I would recommend. I have two other friends who delivered with her and both were very happy as well. Also, you can email her with questions and she answers within 24 hours. By the way, one day I was sitting in her office and one of the hospital pediatricians was a patient of hers - she said she has seen her perform c-sections and she does them very well and that is why she chose her - so even if you do end up with a c-section for any reason (and if she is your doctor you can bet it would be justifiable and not unnecessary), she does that well too.

She really listens to you and spends time with you discussing whatever questions you have. And always follows up!
