Dr. Lauren Elizabeth Spoo

From 2022-2024 I had some of the most unpleasant experiences with not only my previous doctor, but the nurse as well. I was having problems due to heavy bleeding and fibroids and the previous Doctor pretty much made it sound like it was no big deal and was not proactive at all with treatment etc.. between his arrogance and the nurses’ completely awful attitude I was thinking of leaving. Fortunately, I decided to stay when he retired & Dr. Spoo took over .. since April 2024, she and her team have been nothing but amazing. At out first appt, she immediately mentioned my fibroids and enlarged uterus and sprung into action before things got really bad (and they were definitely getting to that point) . She recommended follow ups/ultrasounds to continue measuring my enlarged uterus and growing fibroids ,as well ,as checking on the bleeding issues with bloodwork. At one follow-up we discussed options and she explained we could try to remove or shrink them but do to the amount and current… size they could possibly come back and do this again .. At the time, I was hesitant and she was understanding with my decision. She said that we need to continue to monitor everything. When I came in due to immense pain and bleeding in September, I was given another ultrasound and Dr Spoo explained that the fibroids had grown a lot since the last visit and that’s what was causing my pain and bleeding issues.. By now My uterus had ballooned out to 3x the normal size in a short amount of time (less than 3 months) and she explained that the next option would be a partial laparoscopic hysterectomy . She was very professional and very detailed in her explanations. As nervous as I was to do such a big surgery, I could tell that she knew this was what needed to happen at this point. She was never rude and she never sugarcoated anything. She was just to the point. I wasn’t planning on having any more children (already have my 2 wonderful boys) and will be 46 soon so I agreed to do it. That afternoon, I received a call from the nurse to schedule my preop appointment.. And I will NOT blame her for ‘not doing anything sooner’ I take full responsibility for my decisions.. she came in the day after my surgery, checked on me and made sure I was feeling all right and everything was where it needed to be after the surgery. Bottom line, Dr. Spoo saved my life. She has been the first female doctor I have ever had and having a person who actually understands my body from personal experience has been wonderful. Plus, my surgery was extremely difficult and took an extra hour and a half due to the size of the fibroids/uterus.. AND.. she did all of this while being pregnant herself! Coming from such a horrible experience from the previous doctor and nurses to such an professional doctor, I feel very blessed .

Just got back from being treated horribly by Dr. Spoo's nurse. I went for a well woman visit and ovarian ultrasound. I paid out of pocket for the ultrasound but the well woman was supposed to be free with my insurance. The nurse stated when I spoke about family history it turned into an office visit. I go but she asked so I answered. Apparently Dr. Liedmann, my real doctor who just retired, didn't take descent notes so this doctor had a lot of questions. Had she told me this isn't included for well woman then I would not have spoken. The last thing I wanted was to pay more. Already i felt like i wasted my money with ultrasound because after being advised about doing an ultrasound during the visit she made it sound like it wasn't necessary. She doesn't think pap smears are worth doing yearly even though my insurance covers it especially when I have family history on gynocologicsl cancers. In addition she doesn't to the anal exam. Since turning a certain age that exam is always done.… She said the colonoscipy takes care if it but that's done every 10 years I think it would be good to check a little more frequently. Nevertheless with two important tests left undone they still wanted another $100 from me. When I argued my case in my normal voice no yelling the nurse told me to lower my voice. That's when I wanted to scream on the highest mountain how horrible she was. Since I agreed to never go back they didn't charge me. I have filed a complaint with my insurance. I want another well woman done correctly this year. This doctor is just after money it seems. AVOID. I had her wrong because last year during a conversation I thought she was different. I guess I was wrong. A lady in the lobby heard me call my friend about what I just experienced and gave me the name of a thorough doctor so luckily she's on my insurance If you want haphazard treatment then Spoo is your person but if you want to be treated with respect and thoroughness then go elsewhere.
