Dr. Laurie Ann Mathie, MD

I waited months to see Dr Mathie because I was told she was a great doctor. I was very hopeful but was soon disappointed. I had seen several other doctors who had given me many different diagnoses and thought maybe she could help narrow down a diagnosis. She was so fixated on the fact that I had seen other doctors before her. She did no lab work even though I had had many abnormal test results in the past. I am an RN and I don’t rush to doctors needlessly. This experience has definitely made me a bit jaded.

Thank goodness I was directed to Dr. Mathie! Two different doctors recommended her highly as well as 2 of her patients. She is very knowledgeable & so helpful. She has told me about products I could use that might be helpful. They worked! She takes the time to listen & makes me feel comfortable. I trust her. What a blessing she is to me.

I can't understand how she has so many rave reviews. I waited 5 months for an appt. then waited an hour past my appt time in the exam room. I asked her asst how much longer it would be for the dr to come in. She went into the dr's office and said the dr was reviewing my file. When the dr came in she was extremely annoyed that I had the nerve to ask about the wait and told me she usually runs late. I apologized for asking about the wait but told her I needed to leave to open my business and it was an hour past my appt time. She was very irritated with me the entire time and had a real attitude no matter what I tried to discuss. She immediately diagnosed me with fibromyalgia before even examining me. I had to beg her to give me a cortisone shot in my elbow for tendonitis and insisted i try a topical anti-inflamatory. (Went to pharmacy to buy topical she prescribed - with insurance costs $130 per tube which would last 1 week and takes 1-2 months to see improvement.) She ended the appt… by telling me that she "would not be a good fit" to be my dr as she always runs late in appts since she spends a lot of time with her patients. She is one of the most arrogant drs I have ever seen with her attitude that her patients' time couldnt possibly be as valuable as hers. I would never go back to her or recommend anyone I know to see her. Also, her asst was annoyed that I questioned her request that I sign blank forms. Should have been my first hint appt wasn't going to go well.

I've only been Dr. Mathie for just under a year now, but I was impressed with my first meeting with her and continue to like and respect her even more. I will never see another rheumatologist again.

Dr. Mathie is the most wonderful caring, and compassionate Rheumatologist and person I know. I have been a patient of hers for many, many years and I would highly recommend her. I feel that she goes above and beyond and spends the necessary time for follow up appointments and truly listens! She is an amazing person and physician!

Skip the HUGE health care giants in the area... it is worth the drive outside of the city to get care like Dr. Mathie provides! She takes time with patients, is accessible and REALLY cares about her patients! She spends time and LISTENS to the patient's report as part of her care - she's not just after lab numbers! She also looks at the whole patient and believes in complementary medicine as an adjunct to traditional medicine. She is a truly unique find in the modern health care world!

My complaint is not so much with Dr. Mathie but the professionalism and service of the office staff. I needed an MRI done which takes normally 5 days to authorize. I called the office back in 9 days and they had not even begun on my authorization because I left the message in the nurses mailbox (which a member of the staff directed me to)! No one had called me back to follow up or even started on my request! Not to mention I called back again to make sure it was being processed and they asked me again...oh what hospital did you want to go to? I seriously doubt anything gets done at this office. Its one of the worst and most frustrating experiences I have had. Something that should have taken 5 days has now been over 8 business days and I will most likely be waiting another 5 atleast for authorization. I will never send anyone to this office or deal with them again for an office visit. I will go ANY where else.

DR MATHIE IS VERY CONSIDERATE & PATIENTSHE TAKES THE TIME NEEDED TO HELP &EVALUTATE THE SITUATION. HAVE REFERREDOTHER PEOPLE TO HER AND WILL DO IN THEFUTURE.

I absolutely love Dr. Mathie. Before I met her I did not like going to doctors, especially since every doctor I went to just kept giving me the wrong diagnoses. I went to roughly 40 different doctors (in 1 yr) before I went to Dr. Mathie. I was in and out of the ER, doctors started to think I was making up my problems. When I first went to her my dad and I could tell that she really cared about me, and her goal was to figure out what I had, and to treat it. Within the first couple months she basically figured out what I had and we began treating it. I can not tell you in words how much I love going to her. I typically dislike going to the doctors, but when I know it is an appointment with Dr. Mathie I look forward to it. She has helped me in more ways then one. She not only figured out what I have, but she made me myself again. Before her I was lost and about to give up on finding what was wrong with me. She has now given me the chance to continue living a healthy active life.… I tell everyone I know that she will always be my doctor, and I will never go to another rheumatologist again.

Dr. Mathie is an excellent and caring Dr. who appropriately diagnosed me on my 1st visit to see her when I had been misdiagnosed for many years. Her caring and bedside manner are extraordinary. She is, hands down, the best physician who has ever treated me.
