Dr. Lauryn Smith-Winton, DPM

I saw Dr. Smith to rule out a broken ankle when I fell and tore the ligaments a few weeks ago. Her tech took an x-ray with a machine that was literally held together by tape. She told me It wasn't broken, gave me an air cast boot and told me it would take 4-6 weeks to heal. When I returned after 2 weeks, I still had significant pain but she told me to walk on it in a brace anyway. 3 weeks after that, I demanded an MRI (which she and her staff were reticent to give me) which revealed nondisplaced fractures and severe bone bruises. Despite this report, she told me to walk on it and kept saying it would take 6-8 weeks to heal. She seemed irritated that I was in pain and back in her office. When I got a second opinion from an orthopedist a week later, he was shocked that my fractures were still swollen even at 6 weeks and told me to stay off it and gave me a note to work from home for 3 more weeks. Dr. Smith had no compassion, was upset by my request for an MRI and unwilling to modify her… expectations for how an ankle should progress--and gave me bad medical advice which has slowed my recovery.
