Dr. Lawrence Steven Bluth, MD

I was on hydroxychloroquine and Methotrexate for recent diagnosis of RA and just had a mild case of COVID. I was experiencing severe numbness and weakness in my arms and legs. My knees hurt so bad I could barely walk or get up out a chair. After seeing several doctors including orthopedic doctors my PCP suggested Dr Bluth. The checkup was very thorough. Dr Bluth really cared about helping me find out what was going on. He demonstrated empathy and patience with the visit. After his testing was good, he left it to me about getting MRI of the brain and neck to rule out other conditions. I appreciated this given the MRI is very expensive with high deductible health plan. I wanted to have the tests to rule out any serious conditions which they did. I stopped hydroxychloroquine on my own after reviewing all the data I collected. Many months after COVID and stopping hydroxy my numbness, weakness are gone and RA is not worse. Never will know if COVID or hydroxy was the cause.

I will never see this neurologist again. First appointment. He never introduced himself, grabbed an envelope of reports from other doctors including a MRI disc, not sure he even looked at it, didn’t listen to my questions, was arrogant and rude and appointment was over in 15 mins max. I hadn’t finished filling in the required forms before he was ready to see me. As I left a staff member told me “never mind” Staff were not friendly or welcoming. I left feeling angry and frustrated and upset.

Awesome Neurologist

Dr. Bluth is the rudest doctor I have met. He is dismissive and condescending. I even brought my spouse with me to an appointment to see if it was just me. My spouse was appalled at how Dr. Bluth treated me and dismissed my concerns. Additionally, he holds my records captive so I cannot see another neurologist. His office is unresponsive to my requests for information.

After three attempts to reschedule an appointment, I was notified that I was a "no-show" and that Dr. Bluth refused to see me. First communication, I left a voicemail at the office during working hours. Second communication, I spoke to a member of the office staff and clearly communicated I would not be able to make the appointment. She told me that I need to call a staff member in Glastonbury to reschedule, which I IMMEDIATELY did. The Glastonbury office said I needed to reschedule with the Hartford office. Subsequently, on the day of the originally scheduled appointment (and while I was out of the country without cell service), I received calls from the office inquiring about my arrival. Bottom line: miscommunication within the office staff lands me on the no-show list and patient blacklist. I hope Dr. Bluth is aware of the shortcomings of his staff because it has cost him business and potential referrals.

I had heard from a few folks that their EMGs were nightmares! As an RN, I was nervous at best.. I had my EMG this morning, and was amazed how painless the procedure was! Dr. Bluth was personable and highly skilled. Took a few Motrin after and headed to work. Thank you for such a great experience!!!

Had a nerve test (EMG)- was very nervous (based on pain experienced during a prior test with another doctor). There was no need to be nervous, no pain... could not have gone smoother.

Only saw once and mri ordered. No callbacks! Only onliine info.

I saw Dr Bleuth after left sided headaches, were driving me nuts. I had been recovering from a 2 level anterior cervical fusion, at that time, due to a drunk driver. My left arm was weakened and my hand was dropping stuff. Behind my left eye, was the worst of it. My primary care doctor referred me (and apologized later) to this doctor. He wrote that I came in with a "myriad of problems", and he called me "garulous" in my file. I called back to see him about the results of my EEG and ask why he wrote this, and they told me, "I need to find another doctor, and he was not going to address the comments either". My EEG, for my left arm tested positive, so obviously, he knew this, and treated me like crap anyways. Turns out, the fusion "failed", the titanium plate popped off, and all the screws were "wiggly". This is all in the "OR" report, following a second fusion, only this time, (4) levels were fused. Dr. Onyiuke actually LISTENS to his patients, and does not dismiss them, or treat… them like a hypocondriac. I lived in agony, for 2 years, because certain doctors, just did not believe me. My neck was bright purple, and they all just threw their hands up, and had no idea why. After some research, I found out, that it is common for the levels above a cervical fusion "to go". Pretty sure, the broken one, weakend the levels above. I have insurance, so not sure where all this hostility is coming from. I came in with a paper, so I would not forget to tell him, what I had been tracking. I thought that was a good thing...."myriad", was RUDE. I ended up getting Radio frequency, from a pain clinic after the (4) levels were fused. That worked and my headaches are now gone. Ask for a copy of your records, when you check in. You would be surprised by how what they write, and how they act in the room is worlds apart.
