Dr. Lawrence Eli Garbo, MD

Upon visiting a terminally ill friend last month, Dr. Garbo entered the room for a check on her. Her partner expressed concerns re: vitals and was promptly shut down by Dr. Garbo who uttered, in essence, that it wasn't worth it, etc, etc. The message was clear: Dr. Garbo saw no real benefit to drawing blood from his patient as she was in the final stages of lung cancer. However, the manner in which this was relayed to her partner/health proxy was rude, abrubt and insensitive to say the least. To make matters worse, this somewhat heated discussion was conducted bedside, with no apparent regard for the patient. It should have been discussed out of the room. It could have been handled in a much more empathetic manner. Fortunately, my friend was then moved to the Hospice wing at St. Peters where the caring and empathatic staff did what anyone whose loved one was in the final stage of life would want: they took great care of the patient and tended to the emotional needs of the… family as well. Dr. Garbo should keep his emotions in check when dealing with families in a situation like this.

Dr. Garbo is an excellent doctor who has been treating me since 2001. I have nothing but good things to say. He is always kind and caring and goes out of his way to make you feel good.
