Dr. Lawrence OConnell

Dr. Lawrence O Connell is THE best obgyn in Colorado Springs. He has a very assuring calm demeanor and absolute best bed side manner. If you're high risk or had other complications or outcomes in other deliveries i would ?? recommend him. He cares and helped me have a redemptive experience at childbirth.

Dr wrote scripts for me for 7 months and now refuses to refill (which is fine) but his office went out of there way and reported script fraud to Walgreens, luckily Walgreens keeps records of where the calls came from and caller id's, medical complaint being filed today, as well as discrimination lawsuit

I went to Dr. O'Connell for about 13 years and always loved his bedside manner. However, the office staff for AWHA is horrible and in general incredibly rude, and although I have just dealt with it through the years I am no longer willing to put up with it. Once they argued with me about the copay, and only after I told them I worked in the benefits department at my work and I darn well knew what the copay should be did they back off. They wanted me to "just pay it" and if it was wrong, they would reimburse me. I think not. Last year when I called to make my yearly appointment, I was treated very impersonally and felt like I was just a number. This year when I called in to make my yearly appointment, the person (I have no idea if it were the same person) again did not greet me in any way. She started in on a series of questions like last name, date of birth, last 4 of my social. I actually said to her I thought she was very rude and impersonal to talk to people like that on the… phone. She seemed very taken aback and apologized. This is also the same person who refused to make an appointment for my daughter (see below). Recently I tried to make an appointment for my teenage daughter and was told that because I didn't have the last 2 digits (which only indicates which dependent) for my insurance policy, she wouldn't make the appointment. Even after I told her the policy number is the same and we would provide the actual card when we came in, she refused to even MAKE AN APPOINTMENT! So I relented and called them back when I had the last 2 digits. Then when I tried to make a follow-up appointment for her, this time I was told I couldn't even make an appointment for her because there wasn't a release on file giving them permission to speak to me about her care. I said I'm not asking you about her care, I only want to make an appointment for her, and besides, she's under the age of 18 and still my dependent. I was told that anyone 12 or older is considered an ADULT in their office!! At this point, I said I'm done. I left a voice message for Dr. O'Connell's assistant, who did return my call a few days later, and I asked her 1. Do they have cash customers? Yes. How do these people ever make appointments if they can't provide a complete insurance policy number? I'm not sure why you were told that. 2. How does making an appointment violate privacy laws, and do you really expect 12 year olds to make their own appointments? I'm not sure why you were told that 3. If it were necessary to perform a medical procedure on her wouldn't you need MY consent? Yes. I was told she would get back with me and asked me to provide the name of the person I spoke with. I told her I didn't remember her name, but I did provide the time of the call. I have called back and left messages twice to try to get some answers, but she has not returned my calls.

Dr. O'Connell performed a total hysterectomy on me and he was wonderful. He was very informative and his bedside manner was excellent. Since he shares office space with other Dr.s, the office is quite busy. The office staff are not that friendly either. They could be more helpful and in better moods. They both seemed pretty miserable.
