Dr. Lawrence Scott Schieken, MD

I was itchy all over with small bumps on my back, legs stomach .... You name it I had bumps. I had already been to at least 5 different Dr.'s All over the country. When I went in to see Dr Schieken he couldn't even do a skin allergy test... Too many bumps! He really doesn't talk very much so if you want someone to talk your ear off that's not him. But... If you want to find out what's wrong and fix it, he is your Dr!!!! I wish I still lived close enough to see him. He is amazing!!!

I would not recommend this doctor to anyone. He has a very arrogant demenoir and doesn't listen to his patient's concerns. I have been waiting for over a week for lab results, this is after I had to wait 2 weeks to get the lab script.

Unfortunately this is the only pediatric allergist that accepts our insurance on the eastern shore so we need to use this Dr. but I hate that he is rude & talks down to a mother who has questions about her childs allergy. When I first brought my child in at 9 months old due to an allergic reaction to a food he pretty much made me feel as it I were lying. Also, the front desk staff is awful. No matter what time or day you call the office they answer the phone as if you are bothering them. No customer service skills with this bunch. Bad attitudes all around! Oh and don't think this will be an easy in and out within an hour visit, most likely you'll be stuck waiting in the waiting room for an hour before being seen no matter what time of day. I had an 8am appt once and waiting well over an house because the Dr wasn't even there, then when he finally did get there no apology or anything.

VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE IN THE OWINGS MILLS OFFICE I scheduled my first appointment for 1 pm and arrived on time. After waiting for over 45 minutes, I was informed that the Dr.Schieken had NOT ARRIVED in the office as yet. I was told he was on his way and asked to wait. As a new patient, I expected the office staff to be courteous and let me know at 1pm or shortly after I arrived, that the doctor was running late. No one mentioned anything. One nurse forgot my appointment all together; as she mentioned that she told the doctor, his first appointment was at 1:45. I understand things happen and people run late, but to say nothing at all and have patients just wait for 45 minutes, is unacceptable. It shows no respect for the time of others. I was not the only person in the waiting area. I was very disappointed. I would NOT recommend any new patients to visit this office.

I had a reaction and was told by the ER to make an appt with an allergist. Most allergists were at least one month behind - they got me in within a week. The doctor was 1.5 hours late. He went over the reason I was there like a drill sergeant with no bedside manner. Keep in mind - I drove 1.5 hours and then waited 1.5 hours to be seen. I told him I had taken Benadryl 24 hours prior. He then actually said that I was "wasting his time" and he could not do the test with that in my system. He continued four times that I was clearly told not to take anything within 48 hours. He was not on the phone call when I scheduled the appt! I conveyed I do not recall that. Why would I take 3 hours (driving) of my time to come to the appointment and then tell them I did something I was not supposed to? I told him he seemed as though he was having a bad day and was nonchalant about my issue. I ended up cancelling my next visit and will wait the month to go elsewhere. Not a nice person...

Great diagnostician, funny yet serious about health issues...puts the patient in the driver's seat

My first visit, the Doctor was more than an hour late. He bellowed my name, I got up and he started walking down the corridor, apparently with me to follow - no greeting, no nothing. Obviously the doctor is an accomplished practitioner. He was referred to me by a doctor I trust. This doctor needs some lessons in common courtesy and civil communication. Not sure that I will remain a patient of his.

I trust Dr Schieken with the well-being of not only me but my son. I have been with him for well over 15yrs and my son 8yrs(he's 9 now). I will be the first to admit that bed-side manner at first was "rough"; however if you give him time, he is a very caring and personable DR. My son loves him!. He is extremely knowledgeable and I trust him more than any other Dr I know. . There are times I wait in the office for 30 mins, but I also know he gives you the time you need and answers questions very thouroughly.

My overall experience with this Doctor is unbelievably poor. His staff was incompetent and when I brought this up to the Doctor, it became evident that the incompetence and arrogance came from the top. He may possibly be a good doctor, who knows as I have never gone back to see him and tell everyone I know about the arrogance of this man.We also believe that he defrauds your insurance company, over billing time for what I believe are unnecessary services which we later reported to our insurance company.
