Dr. Lawrence Alan Sterkin, MD

I had a horrible experience with Dr. Sterkin. I did a lot of research on breast reconstruction and went for a consultation for DIEP flap. He misrepresents himself and is not qualified to do DIEP flap. When I asked specific questions about the procedure he couldn't answer and told me, very condescendingly, "You don't have to worry about all those details". I was shocked. I certainly do need to worry about "all those details". Microsurgery reconstruction requires a high level of skill and dedication. Dr. Sterkin has neither of these.

I went for a consult today with Dr. Sterkin for a DIEP Flap procedure. First he was almost an hour late and the first question he asked me was "Was I taping him?" He then proceeded to ask me if I had taped the last surgeon (who is has worked with beofre) and also his nurse??? He then told me it was not allowed at Aurora. I felt a real arrogance and hostility from him, also a nervousness. When I tried to ask him about being a microsurgeon, he answered me very curtly, like he had something to hide. When I tried to ask him about doing a Total Enbloc Capsulectomy, to take out the implant/expander I have in me right now, before any other surgery, he started asking me all kinds of questions about why I thought I was having side affects from the implant. Like he didn't believe I knew what I was talking about. I ended the consult quickly after that and would not recommend him as a doctor at all.

Dr. Sterkin is a great doctor. When I had reconstruction he helped me. "Perfectionism" seems to be his forte. I felt like I was working with some mathematician. Reconstruction is a real precise art and he did a great job. He's extremely intelligent and knows his job well. He's a super genius nerd so his personality might come off as pretentious, but he's not. He's like a Sheldon (Big Bang Theory) of breasts. Breast cancer and mastectomies put you in this whirlwind of emotions, but he and his staff and awesome. They get it.

Dr. Sterkin has been with me through my cancer and has been amazing. Not to mention his beautiful reconstruction work.

Dr. Sterkin did my breast reconstruction surgery, but his bed side manners is horrible! He switched to another facility which was out of my network insurance and I did not received a notice ahead of time. My breast was incomplete, so I had to find another surgeon to finish the work Dr. Sterkin started. I was very upset and I would not recommend him.

Dr Sterkin does not do any breast reconstruction besides implants. There are other options. He does not have the patient's best interest in mind. Do not have reconstruction with him without getting a second opinion!

I was shocked that he did not even know my diagnosis. Imagine facing a double masectomy and seeing this arrogant surgeon who DID NOT even know I had cancer! He claims that he is qualified to do DIEP flap breast reconstruction but could not even correctly explain the procedure me. He IS NOT trained in vascular microsurgery.

Wonderful doctor and staff. Spent time explaining all options I had for breast reconstruction and which options would be best for me. Considered all aspects of my diagnosis and overall health. Very caring throughout the reconstructive process.
