Dr. Leah Marie Pike, MD

Dr. Leah Pike denies medically necessary orthopedic surgical procedures, like rotator cuff repair and the accompanying debridement and bicep tenodesis components of the surgery, on behalf of Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield health insurance. She deems them not medically necessary in her "reviews", without regard to the real life human in the equation -- even when your imaging results, physical therapy records, diminishing shoulder function and excruciating pain levels clearly indicate a declining quality of life over the course of 9 months. My surgeon appealed to her twice, and we eventually had to submit an emergency appeal with the insurance company that went over her head, as the surgery is in one week. What an unnecessary stressor and hurdle to have placed in front of me during such a difficult time. I was fortunate enough to have someone else at Anthem approve the rotator cuff repair today, now for the other two procedures. I believe, despite her denial, that the outcome will be in… my favor.

I read all the great reviews and took my 13 year old daughter to see Dr. Pike. The doctor seemed put out that my daughter weighed over 120 pounds, sighing rudely and saying that she is really not supposed to be working with a child so large. She was also extremely impatient with my 3 year old son who I had with me. She was supposed to contact me regarding a follow up MRI but never did. I am currently looking into filing a complaint.

Amazingly patient and sensitive to my sons injury . Would HIGHLY recommend this doctor for ANY little ones with injuries . Dr. Leah M. Pike takes the same care as if they were her own children . Thanks Dr. Pike !

Let's just say this. This is THE doctor you want for your child. As I said to my husband, she is so committed to her patients and patient's families that you definitely want her as your doctor. However, she is so available to her patients, I wouldn't want to be married to her! Seriously though, I have nothing but good things to say about my experience with her.

My daughter was born with a club foot. I was soo terrified. Being a new mom and having your child casted at 5 weeks and then in a brace for 2 years can seem overwhelming. Dr. Pike and team not only took care of my daughter but me. I was in tears and they walked me thru everything. It has been a long road but we are officially out of the brace and my daughters foot is perfect. Dr. Pike is not aggressive and did not jump to surgery with a new born as most do in this situation. She is calm, practical and a gracious person. She does a lot of good also with no pay for the community.....she really is in it to make a difference and that is rare. If you have a problem like this you should at least visit her office to consider her. Turns out a club foot is definately not the end of the world!!

My son was playing basketball and broke his arm while at Middle School. Doing the doctor authorization process was a nightmare. Our primary physician, order an x-ray to find that his arm was broken; additionally a section of his arm bone was missing, as well having congenial bone issues. Well, we went to six doctors to have his arm set, several of the doctors we never made out of the waiting room before, they told we would need to go somewhere else. During this time my son was watching Good Morning America and saw a show about a little girl that had his same bone problems. Doctor featured in the story was only one of ten physicians, which were able to perform the surgery. Like any parent, I decided it was a time to travel as my son quality to life was at stake. The last step was one more, appointment prior to leaving our insurance network. We were referred to the practice top doctor, but after talking with several doctors in the practice clearly we were in trouble. … However, there was a new Doctor that just moved from Florida. The office sent the x-ray down to Dr. Pike to review. Dr. Pike was the first doctor that did not have to consult with a medical text book to have a conversation. Dr. Pike, in five minutes understood the condition, and agreed to see us. At our first appointment, my son and I shared with her about the story on Good Morning America, that we keep on telling her only ten doctors based on story was able to help us. She asked for some time to review issues. Additionally, she called and consulted with the doctor featured in this ground breaking procedure. All together, I think that she talked with several doctors throughout the United States regarding my son. Note: Spent several hours, reviewing her body of work and care in Florida. The recommendations and peer recommendations speaks for itself. Dr. Pike was unaware that we completed a background search of her credentials and bedside manner. Dr. Pike, spent several office visits talking with myself, however more importantly to my son. What an impact that made, she did not kick him out of the office but sat down a listen to him. The day of the surgery came, she did her homework on little things like making sure everything was authorized by the insurance company. Surgery was not a walk in the park as we lengthen and straighten his arm; furthermore we need to fix the missing bone also. Dr. Pike was involved every step of the way. How many doctors do you that would come to the hospital at 2:00am? Dr. Pike has the knowledge and understanding that my son needed. Furthermore, Dr. Pike called my son to ask how he was doing. My son stated I went from getting throw out the doctors office to one that caresDr. Pike it should be noted that her recommendation is based on what is best for the child and parents. Several times, her recommendation are based on activity modification, surgery is the only one aspect of her dynamic care. Memorial Care is building a new Peds unit in Long Beach California. The best investment was hiring and working with Dr. Pike. Dr. Pike is healer and one that walks the extra mile for our kids.

When Dr. Pike scheduled our 8 month old for surgery suddenly, we had questions. During our appt the week prior to surgery, we asked her to describe what was entailed. She literally huffed at us, and told us that we needed to trust her. We switched docs, and never looked back (and never needed the surgery).

She has a great team working with her. They put both my child and other family members at ease.
