Dr. Leandrita Ortega, MD

-once I calmed down, I scheduled another appointment as I'd I injured my hand (a week or so later) and apologized to the Nurse I ahd posted the review about, but this time I also brought a printout from the Dr. who first diagnosed my back problem in 2013, as well, since I realized they needed to have my complete medical history (it's a long one) on THEIR records if I expected them to treat me. the nurse listened, and this time we managed to communicate - then examined my hand, and explained what I needed to - I really appreciated their being able to see me the morning I called -We are very short of doctors here in a rural area, usually we have to wait a week or so, and their staff IS very capable and caring. The key is communication on my part as well as theirs.

However, she is not always 'available' and I had (for the 2nd time around) a really disturbing outcome in trying to get along with her CNP's referral - she overlooked my previous history, my objections as to the diagnosis with my back, referred me for an un-needed x-ray on my knee and then to an orthopedist (whose doesn't treat back problems, but did take a set of xrays to confirm it was indeed my back, and most helpfully referred me on. I am also d@*# mad at myself - cost me un-necessary co-pays to try to 'make nice'

Dr. Paylor was my previous physician. Dr. Ortega replaced her. I'll admit she had some big shoes to fill, but I'm very pleased with her expertise. I'm grateful to be her patient.

She doesn't listen. She types on her computer, and rarely looks up from it. She asks the same questions several times, and still doesn't seem to hear the answer. The office manager seems to be the only one who knows what she is doing. The other employees are nice in person but horrible and rude on the phone. Refills get lost, or forgotten. She has an issue with time management. It is not unusual to have to wait for an hour or so to be seen. She lacks understanding of people that are not religious.

Dr. Ortega is by and far the WORST doctor I have ever had the misfortune to have to see. Her praying being religious is irrelevant to me, but her bedside manner is just plain bad. I have thyroid disease, liver disease, diabetes and severe back and neck problems from a car accident, I was one of Dr Paylor's patients, I loved her! When Ortega replaced her everything went wrong. She changed my medications even though they were working fine! She was terrible about getting refills called in and several times I was left without very important meds! She was absolutely unwilling to work with you , be flexible or even consider your point of view even though it's your body! I tried to work with her for 6 miserable months, finally just gave in and am trying to find a new doc.

I think Dr. Ortega is an acquired taste she does have to grow on you, Her bedside manner sucks plain and simple. I like the way she prays and almost always ask for a prayer. HOWEVER,GETTING YOUR PRESCRIPTIONS FILLED IS LIKE TRYING TO RAISE LAZURAS FROM THE DEAD IF YOUR NOT JESUS. Every month I get 60 pills of valium 2 pills a day for 30 days = 60 pills. I call my refill in usually when I have 2 or 3 days left. I then spend hours of my time trying to get my refill. I call her officem the nurses are rude, they hang up on me. even though I am right on time for the refill. Last month I ran out it took them 10 days to get the refill. I was having spasms so bad that I thought I might be having a seizures. It was terrifying, both emotionally and physically. I went and saw her on 9/9/13. She assured me that I would not have anymore problems. BUT I am currently trying to get my meds refilled AGAIN even as we speak. The nurses have passed me around even going so far as to tell me It is not… listed on my file, only to say a couple of minutes later she could see the last refill date on the screen. I am tired PEOPLE, tired and terrified what tonight will bring. more spasms and pain. ALL NIGHT LONG. The last nurse that SPOKE AT ME was Shayna, after I said I was going to file a complaint to the state She told me that she would get my prescription to day. she then hung up on me. I think I am going to file that complaint. The more I think of me being bent in half to the point the back of my head is on my butt. the more I think it will be the only thing to do to get my medicine she took an oath to do no harm I believe the oath has been broken. I did not sign up with her, to be ignored and then hung up on. SCREW THEM ALL. I DO NOT KNOW IF IT IS HER STOPPING THE REFILL OR NOT. I BELIEVE IT IS THE NURSES.

Dr. Ortega doesn't make you pray she offers to pray with you and you have the option not to. The staff is great the girls at the front desk are very pleasant easy to communicate with whether its on the phone or at an appointment. I have never had a problem getting my refills. The nurse is very nice and you can tell she cares very much about the patients. I'm a hard stick and she has always been able to get my blood in one stick almost painless. They are very prompt on calling you with lab results and scheduling for testing or specialist, the nurse had me an appointment date with the specialist before I finished checking out WOW!!!! I was very impressed by this group and would recommend them to anyone!

Dr. Ortega is very religious. She will ask if you need prayer with your visit. She rarely gives refills and you have to contact the office 5 days ahead of time to get your meds refilled and then they either aren't called in or they are called in to the WRONG pharmacy. Her staff is very incompetent and I always had to go to the office after waiting up to 8 days for a refill to get my medicine refilled.She doesn't give adequate referrals. She often takes off for days and weeks at a time and if you are out of pain medicine or a medicine she has to sign off on, you won't get your medicine. When out of town, you are referred to Urgent Care.I had to switch doctors b/c my blood pressure would sky rocket and I would have to constantly drive to her office when my medicine didn't get refilled, half the time to discover she was on "vacation". I would have to go without my medicine for days.I would NEVER recommend her to any of my friends. The office staff is incompetent and she hasn't been in… practice long enough to be competent herself. She may be able to take care of sinusitis or strep throat but nothing life threatening like high blood pressure or heart problems.

The office manager is horrible. He needs some classes in business ethics. Someone with his demeanor, should not be dealing with patients. The other staff and the doctors were wonderful. A shame that one bad apple spoils the bunch!
