Dr. Lee Scott Mitchel, MD

Dr. Mitchel is excellent! He is very kind and doesn’t rush through appointments. He answers all questions, and explains things very clearly. He performed an endoscopy for me and provided a very detailed report with pictures right after the scope, and he went over findings and answered questions also. He is clearly an expert GI doctor. Excellent staff as well, very kind and caring. Penny and Lewis are great. Scheduling was easy, and great follow up. The scope was performed at Bayview surgery center, where staff was great as well. I will start out by saying that I noticed that Dr. Mitchel has a 3 star rating. I can't believe this for a second. My experiences with Dr. Mitchel and his staff have been the best bar none. Dr. Mitchel goes above and beyond for his patients. Do you have to wait sometimes? Yes you might have to. But when you see him you will not be disappointed. I can not say enough great things about Dr. Lee Mitchel! My first experience meeting Dr. Lee Mitchel was in an emergency room department at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. I was new to the area and had not yet seen a GI specialist. Well thanks to the powers that be Dr. Lee Mitchel was the physician on call that evening. I was afraid and felt so alone. He walked into the room and not for one moment did he make me feel like I was a bother to him. He sat by my bedside and with kind words and compassion set me at ease. This kind of doctor is so rare to find. Yes, when you go to his office you may have a long wait. I ask you, do you want a physician who cares about you, listens to you and is not checking his watch? Dr. Lee Mitchel isn't just a GI specialist. He is also an internist. What that means is he is looking at you as a whole person not just your present issue. Dr. Mitchel is a very caring doctor who spent his time in helping me find out what was wrong with me. I did not feel rushed as I do with some other doctors. His staff is also wonderful and was able to get me set up for my procedure in a timely manor. I highly recommend his office.

I did not have the pleasure of meeting Doctor Mitchell because the staff deceived me by giving me an appointment with a Nurse Practitioner without informing me previously. When I refused to be seen by her, they left me in a room for 30 minutes until I finally requested an explanation. I was told that Doctor Mitchell will see me “anytime between appointments” (I was wondering whether the office was planning to bill to my insurance an amount consistent with “between appointments”). Of course, I declined the offer. I believe that this office has a problem because they have a young and inexperienced girl who acts as an “Office Manager”. The girl is unprofessional, does not have skills nor empathy, and she tries to restrict the patients’ ability to complain by threating of not allowing them to have an appointment with Dr. Mitchell. She needs to learn that patients are not scheduling an appointment with God, but with a physician. This doctor appears to be very good, but his patients will be… gone if he does not find a way to enhance their care with a professional staff.

I am 76 years old and have cirrhosis of the liver. I have been Dr. Mitchel's patient for 5 1/2 years. Today I have almost no symptoms. Dr. Mitchel is very knowledgeable, and takes the time to listen to everything I tell him. In the past his staff has been as sub-par as he was outstanding. He has a new office manager (Lindsay) who is transforming the negatives into positives. I highly recommend Dr. Mitchel.

Glad to see Dr. Mitchel has hired a new staff. They were truly interested in helping me with my gastrointestinal problems. They were able to get me a CT scan and labs a few days after I was seen and Dr Mitchel helped find the source of my problem. I would definitely recommend him to all my friends and family.

Dr. Mitchel is a great GI doctor, he is very knowledgeable and understanding, he takes time with his patients. His new staff are also wonderful and the phone issues are resolved. I highly recommend Dr. Mitchel.

After being in and out of the hospital and post surgery, I was referred to Dr Mitchell. I was close to death. Dr Mitchell coordinated with my other doctors to ensure I received the best treatment. He has been exemplary and devoted to my complete recovery. I've gone from using a walker to spending winter's skiing in Colorado. His office is busy and there are some long waits but that's due to Dr Mitchell spending quality time with each person. He has hired new staff and things seem much better organized and friendly.
