Dr. Riley has given me a life back. After servers lumbar fusions on my lumbar spine “ Locally, I was left within two werks of the final surgery with broken rods, screws and a sitgeon who wanted toogive it another go. I had lost all confidence in him. My pain was unremitting. I could walk to my bathroom and back, but that was all before my legs were unovsbld due to spinal cord comptrtession. I couldn’t sleep walk eat a meal with My family I was bedridden. I searched for an answer.I needed the best spie surgeon I could find who dealt with other doctors failed surgeries. I am a physician with my friends and colleagues across the country. I spoke to many on the phone. Finally my medical school roommate called me after he had had occasion to travel with Dr. on a medical consultation trip to the Middle East to tend to The Royal Families medical needs. He came away from his trip well versed in the tails of Dr. Lee Riley’s clinical acumen and reputation for being the spine surgeons… spine surgeon. I called a couple of local neuroradiologist thathad trainer at JHH. They referred to him and his talents with such high regard and reverence that I made a call to Baltimore that day. With much coordinationamongst his office and clinical staff my records got to him. His office called for me to make an appointment. My medical school roommate and his wife picked me up at the airport, airport, welcomed me into their home and tended to my needs that I could no longer provide for myself. A few weeks later I returned to JHH for surgery. No pre op promises the failed hardware prevented adequately assessing the anatomy. After three days I awoke in the ICU pain free for the first time in years. I was up and walking in the halls days later and within a couple of weeks I was home, sitting at the dinner table with my family. The chronic cord compression did not completely resolve but I could walk, sit and stand for increasing periods. I had my life back. I saw DrTiley in follow up over a few months and then I began the work of healing. All went well until some 7 years later when I developed a new problem with degenerative arthritis in my cervical spine. My arms and neck began to hurt and I began having hand weakness. MRI done locally confirmed that I had severe foraminal stenosis with degeneration and spinal stenosis. It was a complex problem. Knowing what to do and when to do it has been an old adage the U’ve held to over the years as a practitioner and teacher of medicine. My necxy call was to Dr. Riley. I just got home from the prescribed fix. My pain is improving and the surgical approach and procedure were limited to provide me the maximum relief of symptoms with minimal risk and the preservation of neck mobility. The post op course uneventful. His OR team from anesthesia to his two neurophysiology monitoring teams to his incomparable judgement and surgical technique appear spot on. I would recommend Dr. Riley to friend, family, colleague, or anyone in need of the talents of a top tier spinal surgeon be it for a second opinion, diagnostic evaluation or surgical intervention. Dr. Riley took time with me, took many more x rays than other orthopods had, told me straight that I should NOT have an operation. First one who said I would still have pain even after and ever after.
