Dr. Leon Liang Qiao, MD

I know that the sedation given during a colonoscopy doesn't completely put patient out, but I was fully awake and screaming during my last colonoscopy. After he went ahead and completed the procedure (it was awful!) he said the conscious sedation didn't work on me because of the medications I have to take. Dr. Qiao knew about all of the medications that I took before the colonoscopy so if this was an obvious red flag he should have ordered different sedation. No, he didn't indicate being apologetic or sympathetic in the least.

I have been a patient of the doctor for many years. Referred by a friend who needed a corrective mistake made by ANOTHER . He came from Ia City late at night just to meet her and explain the procedure that would be done the next morning. I have had numerous scopes and have been very pleased with his skills. I think complaints of others can be attributed to a cultural professionalism that differs from our expectations. He is great!

Was not impressed with him at all, he has no bedside manner. Seen a nurse at the office and had no idea who would be doing my procedure, needless to say will request him NOT to be my doctor. The vibe he gave was one that made you feel stupid, and uncomfortable. The nurses in the procedure room were very nice, maybe he could learn from them!!

Prepare to leave your dignity and self respect at the door when vising Dr. Qiao. Also prepare to be berated, ignored and possibly injured. Personal experience demonstrated a complete disregard for patient input. During a procedure where you are supposed to be sedated, obvious facial signals indicating you are nearly gagging on something he jams down your throat will go completely ignored. At 53 years old, I have NEVER encountered such an arrogant, difficult to understand and incompetent doctor. Curious, I inquired about him with others in the office that experienced his "care" and found out some victims experienced colonoscopies where he has damaged the fragile mucosal membranes in the colon that resulted in months of pain and healing. Others were too embarrassed to share their experiences because of the nature of his specialty. His office contains multiple gastroenterologists and is a monopoly operation in Cedar Rapids. If you need this kind of medical attention, absolutely,… positively, refuse to allow them to assign Dr. Qiao as your doctor. When I complained and asked to change doctors, they dismissed me from the whole practice because my comments on the voice mail were quite a bit more terse than in this review. Iowa City is the nearest second place to find gastroenterologists and since I have no one to escort me there and back for CR, my condition remains untreated. Don't let this happen to you.

Dr. Qiao wouldn't give up in seeking a cure for me and I'm very fortunate that I was referred to him!

Does not listen to patient. This doctor didn't ask about anything pertaining to my condition. He pretends to have a language barrier, but he is rude and interrupts when you are speaking. I am searching for a new doctor but it is not easy. I am just another number to Dr. Leon Qiao.

His manner was distant. He did not listen well, Interupted me with the same question before I had a chance to finish answering and was distinctly condescending in his actions and words. To say that he was not caring or gentle would be to kind. Follow up has been almost non existent with two calls from his nurse,no answers to questions about diagnosis and tests ordered but I'm given no Idea why and what they are. All in all not a pleasant experience in the least.
