Dr. Leonard Vito Gioia, MD

I have never been more insulted by a doctor. Dr. Gioia laughed as I described my symptoms and level of pain. I provided blood work to substantiate the need for him to re-examine my thyroid and he half-heartedly admitted that it HAD enlarged -- BUT refused to prescribe anything.

I was surprised to see negative reviews for Dr. Gioia. I have been a patient for the last 6 years and I am completely satisfied with his care. He has been all those things they said he was not...thorough with exams and reviewing labs, explained my illness, answered questions, spent all the time I needed to feel confident that I am in good hands.

I would definitely not recommend Dr. Gioia and for those who have been going for years and just feel comfortable, just see what else is out there and I promise you, you will never go back. He is arrogant, does not listen to the patient, and if you do not take his perferred option - he tunes you out and ends the visit with you cannot stay on this medication for ever you will need to make a decision to do either A or B. But yet, if I choose one of those options, I will still need to be on medication. He actually took me off my medication for almost 2 months, thinking I was cured (yeah right!) what a mistake. I also believe that he is overpriced and wants you in his office constantly - just to make money, even if you are taking the same mediciation, etc.. for 2 years. Where I understand you need follow ups, you do not need to go every 6 weeks. Everyone, please take the stand and find another physician as it is about time he understood how we feel as patients - ignored!

I would never send anyone to this doctor! I went to him for over ten years for Hashimoto's Disease. He made me feel as if my questions were an annoyance to him and acted as if he was on an entirely different intellectual level. My concerns were pushed aside and he even spoke of taking me off mediacation even though my symptoms were worse and my levels were skyrocketing. I am so thankful that my family pushed me to see another doctor. She has been wonderful and has found 7 thyroid nodules that need to be removed. He had refused to give me a thyroid sonogram and missed them. Go anywhere else!

I don't know what these reviewers were thinking. I love this Dr! Another endocronoligist told me that I would need to take medication for the rest of my life. Dr. Gioia as someone said "mad scientist" method worked for me. I had hyper thyroid and I was under his care for about a year and have been stable without any medication for 3 years. The staff was great. The nurse that took blood was excellent!! I would recommend this Dr. in a heartbeat!!!!!

This guy is In Newsdays Top100 Doctors, who on earth comes up with that list? It's time for retirement, Dr Gioia you are rude and arrogant and I knew that 8 years ago, but returned to your office again because of your rating in Newday.....Same experience!

OMG! As soon as I stepped foot into the examination room, he immediately gave off this "mad scientist" type of vibe. I was a new patient of his, it was my very first visit and before he even went over my medical history, he was already assuming that I had nothing wrong with me. I did have a thyroid problem that I was previously diagnosed with, but as he asked me questions as to why I wanted to see an Endocrinologist, he made kept digging and digging to find reasons that I DIDN'T need to see a specialist. He then checked my throat and didn't feel a swollen thyroid, therfore he seemed adamant that I was fine. I told him I really needed to see an Endocrinologist for my issues, but he was very irratic and made me feel like I was stupid for even wanting to see a specialist. He advised me to eat right and not to eat foods high in sugars. He did not diagnose me, and never followed up with me after my blood work results came in. I gad to call several times to even get my results, and he NEVER… even reviewed them with me over the phone or even review them on the phone with me. I requested to have have a copy of my results and brought them to a new Doctor named Dr. Steven Pater, who actually diagnosed me with 2 serious diseases which Dr. Gioia missed. Not only is he uneducated, rude, and have extremely bad bed side manner, but he honestly does not care about your well being. As someone mentioned below, he really deserves to lose his license. I am surpirsed he has not had any law suits filed against him. He convinces people that they are fine and healthy without examining or reviewing thier blood work, if someone doesn't think about getting a second opinion, he will end up allowing someone to have their disorders get worse! What an evil, disgusting man!

No wonder it was so easy getting a next day appointment with Dr. Gioia, probably because he is losing all of his patients because of his poor practice! I just moved to the area, so I figured I'd try a new Endocrinologist, big mistake! I am better off driving out of the way to see my old one. He is a complete waste of time and money! He will not diagnose me, he will not let you speak and gets really annoyed when you mention your concerns. He seems like a pyshco and I really truly felt like he was not even a real doctor. Do not go to him!!

What a horrible mistake it was seeing Dr Gioia!! He was very rude, arrogant, he kept cutting me off etc.I told him what my sympsomts of my PCOS were, (weight gain, excessive hair... I have normal periods) and I told him I was previously on Metformin. He advised me thet I should get laser hair removal or shave my excess hair (basically telling me to spend thousands of dollars instead of pescribing me something that can solve my problem) He told me that he was against Metformin, he says I probably don't even have PCOS to begin with, but I was previously diagnosed with PCOS with 2 other Endo's in the past. I went to him because I really needed help with losing weight and PCOS just makes it harder to lose. He told me that PCOS has nothing to do with why I can't lose weight, which is 10000000% false! Almost every woman with PCOS either takes Metformin or birth control, and he didnt prescribe me anything, he didnt give me any suggestions on how to lose weight, he just let me leave with NO… diagnoses. He was very combative, and basically just assumed that I didnt have a huge problem that didnt require any help, before even receivign my test results!! I know for a Fact that I been living with PCOS for years, and he just disregarded it. I went there for his help, and he just talked his way through the appointment, and said he didnt have any knowlegde of the things that I brought up. He just stole my copay and did absolutely nothing for me! I WILL NEVER, AND I MEAN EVER GO BACK TO HIS OFFICE AGAIN!

He was extremely rude as soon as he walked into the examination room, stating, to my face, "Yeah, well, I'm probably not going to find anything wrong with you," BEFORE he read my chart, or my new patient form, or even touched me! He dismissed me with blood work, and never called me back. After a second opinion, and an AMAZING physician, I was diagnosed with Cushing's Disease- an extremely serious endocrine disorder. I DO NOT trust his medical judgement, nor do I car for his personality in the slightest. Do not see this physician.
