Dr. Leonard Vekkos, DPM

Dr. Vekkos is originally from the Philadelphia area and completed his undergraduate education at Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. He received his Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine from the Temple University Podiatric Medical School in 1982. Dr. Vekkos came to the Midwest in 1982 after acceptance by the Podiatric Surgical Residency Program at Northlake Hospital. Dr. Vekkos served as the Chief Resident during his second year, completing his postgraduate education in 1984. During the ensuing years, he practiced in the western suburbs, establishing the Foot & Ankle Wellness Center at Seven Bridges. Dr. Vekkos developed special interests in pediatric flatfoot deformities and reconstructive foot and ankle surgery in adults, while also establishing a successful general podiatric practice. In 2022, his Foot & Ankle Wellness Center practice was acquired by Northern Illinois Foot & Ankle Specialists. After 40 years, Dr. Vekkos desire was to focus on patient care without the stresses of …running a practice. When the opportunity arose, the acquisition of his practice by NIFAS, provided the exact environment Dr. Vekkos was looking for. Additionally, he was also pleased to now be working along Dr. Patrick McEneaney, the founder and owner of NIFAS, who also happened to be one of the residents Dr. Vekkos trained. Life does come full circle. Dr. Vekkos enjoys fishing, biking, and spending time with his family.
