Horrible experienceâ?¦wish I would have read theses reviews prior to taking my daughter there! I don't mind the long wait to see the physician if it was worth the wait. However, his condescending, arrogant attitude was evident within the first minute we met him. He questioned another diagnosis that my daughter has, even despite that she sees another Dayton CMC physician for this. Ridiculously, awful bedside manner, one of the WORST I have ever seen from a patient experience or as a nurse. I would have been embarrassed to be his nurse after the experience I encountered yesterday. Frustrating, to have to pay for such medical services. I would never recommend this physician to anyone.

Yes, there was a bit of a wait to see Dr. Canessa. However, it was worth the wait to see him! He is very thorough, wants to truly know his patient, and takes all the time needed to do so. He then takes all the time needed to educate his patient and parent(s) fully before concluding the appointment. (draws diagrams, etc., on the exam table paper and also provides lots of printed material to take home for reference) If you are looking for a doctor that is going to go the extra mile to provide the very best care for your loved one then you will be pleased with Dr. Canessa!

Dr Canessa has been my sons kidney doctor since he was a few days old. At first we were a little intimidated of him, but over the years, we have learned that he is very straight forward and does not sugar coat anything. Plus, he is really, really good with my son. While it's true that you may have to wait a bit, but that's only because he is so thorough with his examinations. He leaves no stone unturned. My wife is a nurse and she will at times try to over-analyze a situation, and with a wink and a smile, he sets her right! My son was born with PUV, and we had some scary moments at first, but he was always there to reassure us and keep our fears to a minimum. I am very protective of my son, and I trust Dr Canessa with his life. My family, and Dayton Children's Hospital are very blessed to have him!

Although we waited over an hour to see Dr. Canessa it was hard to be mad about it after we saw how much individual time he spent with us and our child to make sure we understood everything before we left. He spent nearly an hour with us. Yes..his accent is thick and you might have to ask him to repeat himself, but he went as far to draw pictures and diagrams on the bed sheet paper to explain everything to us and make it easy to understand. He appeared very caring and told exactly what to expect and what we need to do to get to the correct diagnosis. As for the person that said he wont admit he does not know something, I could not disagree more as he told us several times he did not know exactly what was going on with our son until after testing. He was nice to our son and even wiped him off when he spit up on himself. The wait is long and appointments are hard to make, but that goes hand in hand with trying to see a specialist in this area. We would reccomend him to anyone

My son has been urinating blood for 7months.After 4months of waiting to get into see him, not only did he give us a totally wrong diagnosis, he would not admit he did not know or he was wrong. he was rude toward me and my son. When the 1 time my husband came he talked to him and FLAT OUT ignored me, because I knew he was wrong and my ignorant to medical anything husband agreed with him. I think Dayton Childrens is a joke as a whole. I would treat me kids myself before ever returning their! Go to Cincinnati is what i have heard for years!

Dr. Canessa is very thorough and forward-thinking. My son has been his patient for 3 years now, and we are very happy with his care from Dr. Canessa. Overall, he explains things pretty well, although a couple times we have understood certain procedures better after speaking with other doctors. Keep in mind that this is over a course of 3 1/2 years of care. His Spanish accent is very thick so sometimes I have to ask him to repeat himself. We always get results from changes in meds that Dr. Canessa orders. I have high confidence in him to provide good care even in chronic, long-term situations. He also collaborates with other doctors very well, whether they are in his specialty or not. His office staff are very courteous and have always returned our phone calls. I highly recommend Dr. Canessa and am confident that he can provide a correct diagnosis as well as treatment, as long as the type of treatment is available at the hospital he's serving. Dayton Children's does not provide… hemodialysis or transplantation. But Dr. Canessa collaborates well with the transplant team in Cincinnati.

My child has had recurring bladder and kidney infectons and uti's. Pediatrician referred her to Dr. Canessa. While my child required a 4 day hospital stay to receive IV antibiotics, there was such a communication gap due to his thick accent, that her medications were incorrect when we got home. Also, we recently were sent to the ER again to see Dr. Canessa when my daughter had alarming amt of blood in urine. Dr. Canessa never even came to see her, he had the dr in the ER send her home with antibiotics and said it wasn't that big of a deal. His bedside manner is atrocious and he can barely speak English. VERY frustrating. I will NOT be taking my child back to him, OR to Children's Hospital.
