Dr. Leora Pnina Bar-Levav, MD

Not professional. Eats in session and glances at her phone like she is distracted. Also never followed up after seeing her many sessions and little knowledge on basic phobias. Dead end kind of therapy that offers little suggestion on how to propel with forward motion. Wouldn't recommend.

I was a young adult when I started seeing Dr. Bar-Levav. I was refered to her by my primary care physician. I can't recall how many months I spent having therapy sessions with her, but I do know that it left a negative impact. I found her harsh and callous regarding not only my personal feelings and fears but also to my chosen profession (child care). I went to her for advice and counseling regarding my low self-esteem among other things and always felt rather put down by her. When I finally suggested a medication for her to prescribe to me, and upon finding it helped my depression and anxiety, I told her that I felt ready to stop our therapy together. She tried to talk me out of it for a few minutes, talked about herself for the rest of our last appointment together and never did follow up with me to see how I was doing. Not even a phone call. I went into therapy with a whole new practice a year or so after that and am happy to say that I found a much more caring group and am off of… medications all together. I understand that tough love is often a necessary part in helping someone through their deep issues and I've always been one to value honesty, however, Dr. Bar-Levav simply had a poor bedside manner for lack of a better phrase. This was my experience, I hope it was not/will not be yours.
