Dr. Leslie Patricia Dean, MD

Dr. Leslie Dean grew up in Chicago and received her medical training at the University of ChicagoÂ’s Pritzker School of Medicine. Following her complete course of training as an orthopedic surgeon, she trained an additional 12 months in a hand surgery fellowship. She now limits her practice to hand, wrist, and forearm. When Dr. Dean joined AFOC in 1995, her skills and training offered many new services to Alaskans. Injuries that previously required emergency trips to the Lower 48 can now be treated locally. This includes re-plantation of severed fingers and even the reconstruction of functional hands through the creation of fingers from transplanted toes. Dr. Dean is accomplished in microvascular reconstruction, which involves the reconnection of tiny nerves and blood vessels that can be seen only with the aid of a microscope. She treats numerous cases of hand and wrist trauma, hand deformities, carpal tunnel syndrome, and wrist pain. Dr. Dean is Past Department Chair of …Orthopedics at Providence Alaska, Past President of Anchorage Medical Society, Secretary / Treasurer of the Alaska Orthopedic Society, and Affiliate Professor / Team Physician for UAA. Dr. Dean is fond of hiking, bicycling, kayaking, and cross-country skiing. She enjoys the Anchorage Symphony Orchestra and other performing groups. Dr. Dean and her husband cheer on UAA Seawolves hockey. She is a long, long-time fan of the Chicago Cubs.
