Dr. Liliana Patricia Garcia-Vargas, MD

I was her patient for so long. Until I got a video visit appointment for my nightly sweat and change of mood and asked her if there is any test that can assess and describe what my body is going through. She immediately got defensive that I'm influenced by media about use of some hormone therapy which is not FDA approved. She then told me there is no test either blood or urine to check my condition and provide me a better understanding of what's going on. When I asked her what is your suggestion about what should I do in next step, she said she is bothered by the question because the appointment is 20 minutes video visit (basically we were in minutes 5 of appointment at that time) and I need to go to her office for 40 minutes evaluation to get answer. At that point she said if you come to office I can do prescribe some test and do a full evaluation. It was a very bizarre encounter which took less than 10 minutes. I don't recommend her to any of my friends and family. Save your time and… money by finding a doctor who really cares about your well-being.

One star review is too high. I was a patient of Dr. Liliana Garcia-Vargas for approximately 18 months. She was treating me for Hashimoto's thyroid disease. When I became her patient I knew that I had 2 benign thyroid nodules. I had complained to her that I was having trouble swallowing and felt at times like I was choking. I told her that my previous endocrinologist would schedule ultrasounds of my thyroid every 6 months. She told me that this was not necessary and there was nothing wrong with to cause the sensations and difficulties in swallowing I was feeling. My gut feeling told me that something wasn't right and I schedule a second opinion appointment with the endocrinologist I was seeing in my home state of New York (before we moved to California). That doctor scheduled an ultrasound and found a new nodule in my thyroid near my trachea. It was small and he said we would keep an eye on it and asked about my swallowing feelings. We have since moved back to our home state of New York… 6 months ago, and I am seeing my same endocrinologist again. Approximately a month ago, he told me after a routine ultrasound that the nodule discovered while I was living in California double in size in about 6 months. He recommended a FNA bioposy. The results came back 2 weeks later and I was diagnosed with papillary thyroid carcinoma. I have since had surgery to remove my entire thyroid and 3 lymph nodes. The biopsy results came back from my thyroid surgery and was informed my cancer is angioinvasive and that the cancer isn't gone and need more treatments. If Dr. Garcia-Vargas had been a good doctor, and listened to my concerns my cancer would have been caught earlier. Remember as patients, we give doctors and medical groups our business. I would definitely not recommend her. She was negligent in her practice of medicine and unconcerned about me as a patient. Avoid Dr. Garcia-Vargas at all costs...your health depends on it!!
