Dr. Linda Katherine Cunning, DO

I saw Dr Linda Cunning at Maine Behavioural Health in Portland Maine today. She was rude right from the beginning of my appointment. She didn't listen to anything I had to say after I would respond to one of her questions and she tried to blame me for her not remembering or paying attention "oh you didn't say you had diabetes" when I did. She tried to blame my coffee consumption and lack of exercise as the reason for my depression and insomnia. Told me to never be in bed past 8am and that I need to just put my shoes on and exercise, despite my physical limitations. She also judged my relationship, telling me "Why would you be with someone you never see?". First of all, my boyfriend travels for work and I do see him, many people have relationships like this. And secondly, if I wanted a lecture, I'd call my father. My personal relationship is none of her business and was not relevant to our conversation. She was very condescending and passive aggressive. I walked out of the appointment.… I was done being treated like crap and berated about my life. Never saw this woman before today and I guess she had my life summed up from a 20 min appointment. If you want actual psychiatric care, don't go to this woman.

FIrst time ever going to see a pyschiatrist, didn't know what to expect. Wasn't informed it was telepsch which was strange to me. I found her to be very judgemental and plain rude to me. She didn't give me a full chance to complete my sentences of explaining my circumstance without interrupting me as I wasn't explaining it the way she wanted me to . I was very dissapointed in the way I was treated by Dr. Cunning and hope this review can help others in the future. Needless to say, I will not be going back there.

I doubt if I have ever come across a more hostile and unsympathetic woman as Dr. Cunning. This woman is a 'therapist'? I actually received an apology from the therapist that I WAS seeing who foolishly recommended her to me. Perhaps it's an overused word nowadays, but 'bully' is the best to describe her persona. I was seriously depressed at the time I saw her and left her office in tears, but had enough self-esteem to know that I would never go back. And I didn't. Do yourself a favor and find a shrink that actually cares.

Our last appointment went like this: Me: I just don't think I'm bipolar. LC: You think you're not bipolar anymore? You have a LIFELONG CONDITION that you need to SERIOUSLY MANAGE. Me: No, I don't think I was ever bipolar. I've never been psychotic. I've never had a manic episode, EVER. Her: I only want to help you. Me: ...that's not really responsive to my question. Her: Let's increase your Geodon! Me: [never goes back]

Like the other reviewers, I believe that Dr Cunning is extremely incompetent and basically doesn't take her responsibilities as a psychiatrist seriously. I have been seeing her despite this because I am stable and really just need her to prescribe me meds. However, she recently refused to give me a refill on my meds until I came in to see her again, which makes sense, because she wants money. Fine. But I was going out of town imminently and needed at least a months supply before I could see her. She refused. I ended up calling the answering service, and another doc was able to do my refill without any issues. That is the last I will ever deal with her.

It is easy to get an appointment with her - should have told me something. Bottom line - you get the same arrogant crap you get going to the hospital only it is dressed up in a nicer office and friendlier atmosphere. I am so disappointed with my treatment from her and the disrespect she shows me by never being prepared for our appointment, being constantly late, and then wasting my appointment time having me remind her what happened at my last appointment. She also talks about herself a lot. I appreciate a no-nonsense approach, but she doesn't produce, and so, that approach is not justified.

This woman has been described by many of her patients as uncaring, brusque, uneducated and rude. She doesn't listen to her patients in the slightest and decides what to diagnose them with seemingly without justification. One patient was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder and had absolutely no symptoms, when confronted about that fact Dr. Cunnings didn't respond by answering questions. She in fact responded by saying "I've been doing this for 30 years, I know what I'm talking about." The patient of hers this review is specifically about struggled with issues for months until finally finding a psychiatrist with openings, saw Dr. Cunnings and subsequently attempted self-mutilation out of despair. She literally does the antithesis of her job, and should be fired to prevent more patients from suffering MORE due to her "treatment."
