Dr. Linda Diane Moghtader, MD

I went to Dr. Moghtader years ago but recently had a friend mention her name as a possible choice for a psychiatrist. I advised her against considering Dr Moghtader for the following reasons: I went to see Dr. Moghtader b/c my anti-depressants weren't working and I thought I might need to be on mood stabilizers. (Doctor's later did diagnose me as bipolar) and yet Moghtader was not convinced. As I began to provide a brief overview of my symptoms, to Dr. Moghtader, she quickly shot back "I'm not here to provide therapy!!" I told her I knew that (I already had a therapist) but wanted to provide some context. She was incredibly dismissive and rude. I also mentioned that I was taking Ritalin b/c I had ADD. She said, "I don't see it" Ummm. Hello? First, I was on Ritalin when she saw me so I was focused. Secondly, you wouldn't be able to tell just by 5 minutes w/ me even w/out Ritalin. Lastly, she did call my current therapist to get some information (I will give her credit for… that) but then was unprofessional enough to tell me what he said about me in their private conversation! Not diagnosis-related items, mind you, but his personal thoughts about me! Shockingly, she also made comments about what she thought about him! So beyond unprofessional. In short, I found her highly unpleasant and unprofessional and never went back. I would not recommend her.

She diagnosed me as Bipolar and put me on Lithium when my proper diagnosis is Major Depressive Disorder. I got very I'll, and felt drugged from the Lithium.

Dr. Moghtader has a low key, but very focused approach to diagnosing the issues confronting a patient. She listens very carefully, and makes sure you "get it all out" before probing further. In my experience, her diagnosis and treatment of my severe depression was extremely helpful, and I feel lucky to have been referred to her.
