Dr. Lisa Angstman, MD

I wanted to focus on improving in my current life. I was having a lot of depression and needed support to take steps to improve my current situation. I told Dr. Angstman that it was not a good time to discuss childhood in depth because I felt it would be retraumatizing, especially in my current mental state. I had worked on trauma from childhood in therapy for years when I was strong enough mentally. I told Lisa at every session that I did not want to discuss childhood trauma at this time but at each session she kept asking about my childhood. This caused me a lot more trauma and made my depression and anxiety worse. I would end up crying hysterically in appointments and leave that way too. After a year of what to me felt like an abusive relationship, I got up the strength to leave and find another therapist. My new therapist points out my strengths and helps me improve my current life. Occasionally we discuss the child abuse if I choose but she respects that I need to move on.
