Dr. Lisa Gayle Newman, MD

Lisa is an extremely unprofessional and rude doctor, for multiple reasons but the two biggest ones that affected me: -during college i had depression (and am autistic) and was repeatedly missing appointments. instead of talking to me about it privately in her office, she came out to the huge nyu waiting room and kept yelling at me saying "DO YOU KNOW WHAT AN APPOINTMENT IS? HUH?" repeatedly bc i wouldnt answer and was clearly upset. also, really needed my pcos medicine. then walked back to her office. only in her office did she then say "u know missing appts is a sign of depression talk to your therapist about it" and i said "yeah i already am" and there was silence from that evil woman - made ant-Black remarks about my discoloration in between my legs and said theres ways to fix that. Also when I asked her if she knows any ways to grow hair (i have pcos) she quickly said iron (which i was already on and still am), then focused on looking at my hair and said "you must be really… self-conscious about the hair loss is that why?" This happened in 2016 and I still remember it vividly. But it still angers me that i didnt stick up for myself, so now I am. Dr. newman if you're reading this, i bet you don’t even remember who this was. But if you do, understand that the way you treat Black women will eventually come back to haunt you, more than it already has given your personality If you had a very different experience, I'm pretty sure i can guess your demographic

Terrible. Avoid. Is obsessed with diabetes, even if you don't have diabetes or any blood sugar issues....Also, pushes drugs on you. When I asked her if there were any naturalistic alternatives to the drugs she offered me, she asked, "What, do you wanna take arsenic?" Literally. I wanted to respond, "Yes, please, give me arsenic if you have access to it, because that would surely solve all of my problems in one dose." But, unlike her, I took the high road and explained that by "naturalistic" I did not mean arsenic or even homeopathic, but rather "lifestyle" changes or external ways to treat the condition. Also, she was very condescending about my hesitancy to take birth control. In addition, she gave a very strange physical exam. Finally, she won't admit late patients, so I was sure to be there on time, which I was, and then had to weight 30 minutes because SHE was late. Ridiculous, impatient, very tacky, and rude.

Have seen her on many occasions, and have always left with a better sense of my condition from the thorough and thoughful way she presents it. Every question I had was answered in a timely manner. I would highly recommend her to others

I highly recommend Dr. Newman. She is very thorough and takes the time to explain a complex medical condition in terms I can understand. She is also very concientious in following up with lab results, etc.
