Dr. Louis Wonill Kang

I was born with defects in my knees. At twelve, Dr. Kang told me complete replacement of both was the only way to completely absolve the various problems....but, of course no one would approve such an operation on such a young person. He told me my knee caps would slide and at that point, I would need surgery (lateral release). Until then, I was told to do wall sits (to strengthen my quads), and that he didn't want to hear any sniveling about knee pain until I could sit for 2+ minutes. While that is theoretically sound, what I found out later, upon visiting another physician, is this exercise merely exacerbated my condition(s), which would explain the extreme burning pain I felt shooting up and down my legs around the 15 second point.Fast forward a few years, I am 17 and as predicted, my knee cap slips. While sitting down in class, I felt a "pop" and extreme pain. This happened the week before the Spring Break trip to NYC with the drama dept. I hobble home from the bus stop, and call… his office saying I need to see him ASAP, they refused to schedule me in, I had to wait for 2 weeks to see him (which for a small office like his is HIGHLY unusual). I then called my dad, in tears, who had a little better success with the office and got me an appointment in two days. However, with the amount of pain I was in, I had to see a Dr then. Surprisingly, my GP pediatrician was able to fit me into their schedule without a problem and saw me right away. They said that I'd probably get put on crutches 'till the surgery happened.Nope, no such thing....he barely even talked to me, instead he looked to my dad to tell him where I hurt, and merely wrote me a prescription for vicoden and said I'd be fine for the walking around the city for my trip. Yeah.... That didn't work out so well.So we decide the best way to go about the surgery was to "wait" for the school year to pass and give me the summer to recover.The week before my surgery, the office calls asking if we could reschedule my procedure for a month later, because he had just scheduled a trip for that week!! Naturally, we refused.The surgery happens, the out-patient nurses were very nice, they even gave me a teddy bear. When I woke up from the anesthesia, I was in SOOOOO much pain! I was thrashing (and my knee was merely cloth bandaged, not in a leg brace), crying, screaming. The attending nurses had to RUN after Dr. Kang, who was on his way out the door, without checking on me, to catch his plane, just so they could get him to okay more pain medicine for me. At this point, even, he didn't bother to come into check on me!For recovery, I didn't get crutches, and had been given Darvoset for pain. I found my body didn't like Darvoset. When I told Dr Kang this, he didn't believe me and refused to write me a different prescription.The recovery was slow, and compared to my later lat release on my right knee performed by a different doctor, I almost think my left knee is worse off than before.
