Dr. Louis Kaleolani Pau, MD

Dr. Pau is absolutely terrible. I would NOT recommend him to anyone!! He made me feel like crap after my very first appointment with him. I was in for a four car accident and on pain killers to manage the pain at the time and he told me I didn’t need any pain management therapy and to stop all pain meds, no cortisone shots, no muscle relaxers, NOTHING!! And I was already suffering with chronic pain as it is. Then he went on explaining he hit a median at 90 mph and was walking the very next day. What kind of doctor compares his pain to his patients pain?? He has no idea!! Oh and he’s also famous for statistics too on how many people out there are hooked on pain killers. He has to get off his high horse. There are innocent people that need effective pain treatment!! If you want effective pain management and someone who genuinely cares about taking you out of your misery, DONT SEE DR PAU!!

I hate to say this but I have a ton of health issues and have dealt with MANY medical/dental offices throughout the state but when it comes to ONE Dr. and staff that stands out to me it would have to be Dr. Louis Pau. This practice is Pain Care, so you can imagine that a lot of patients are irate and rude, I understand that you're hurting but don't take it out on the office staff of the Dr. that's trying to make you better. Even though some of the attitude they deal with the staff is ALWAYS amazing, sympathetic and kind hearted. They've continuously bent over backwards for me in my time of need including when their office had already closed they took care of paperwork that was a last minute request from my HR dept. Besides the great work the office does there's also the nurses and of course Dr. Pau himself. Always super knowledgeable about my issues and they take their time explaining when I have questions or concerns and explain it so that I can understand it, instead of throwing… medical jargon and codes/numbers at me like many other doctors and their offices do. His practice comes HIGHLY recommended, I don't know how else to show my appreciation for them. Thank you for all you guys and gals do. D.Y.

Dr. Pau found that my grandma had a fractured spine. He did an injection with bone cement and it cured her back pain. Now she is going Las Vegas again.

I was patient of Dr Pau's when he practiced Pain Management in Topeka Ks USA in early 2000...he literally saved my life...Dr Pau I need you! My chronic Back pain is flared up...hope you and your family are doing well...Debra Baumgartner

First off, Dr. Pau's receptionist needs to state upon asking that he DOES NOT TREAT using Pain Medication; she was misleading then denied it. Otherwise I would not have chosen Dr. Pau. Unfortunately, Dr. Pau did NOTHING to help me. I was rear ended in a three car accident, which resulted in mid back pain; the main reason for my visit, although I have other back conditions exacerbating my pain. On my first visit, irregardless of telling him that my pain level at it's worse hit 8-9, which he questioned, he stopped the pain medication I was taking, replacing it with Tylenol and refusing anything else for the pain (cortisone shot, etc). I got extremely nauseous for several weeks from stopping the Tramadol cold turkey, and the Tylenol barely helped; 85% of the time all I could do was lie in bed. Dr. Pau told me during my first visit that I should already be healed (five months after the accident); he did not accept my viewpoint on the accident, the position I was in to cause the pain.… Instead continually stating and basing his decision on his prior experience as a police officer and paramedic. He did not get all of my records from the other treating physicians yet deemed my condition not accident related, closing my case, and stopping Physical Therapy, which was helping, all on my second visit. When I questioned Dr. Pau, his jovial demeanor and personality changed; he was curt, irritable, and quite unprofessional. Several pluses are Dr. Pau's Medical Assistant, who is friendly, caring, and professional. His office, waiting room, and patient's rooms are very clean and sterile. And I experienced no problems in getting appointments, unlike others.

Always take time to talk to patient. Great service. Malia in office is best.

Great doctor and has a very courteous helpful and friendly staff

Dr. Pau is efficient, professional and a straight shooter with a great sense of humor. It helps that he is Hawaiian born and raised. His office is clean and cool. Sometimes there's a bit of waiting. Small price to pay for a good Dr. who travels to Hilo only once a week. Mahalo Nui Dr. Pau & staff!

What can I say, great doctor... very caring and intelligent. He gave me a shot in my neck and my neck and arm pain is gone. Now I can go fishing with my grandkids. I highly recommend Dr. Pau to everyone. His staff is very nice and helpful. Kudos to everyone to Oahu Pain Care.

I was hesitant to see Dr. Pau after seeing his reviews, but my surgeon and primary doctor said that he is the best in Hawaii. They said that other doctors injections usually cause the patients a lot of pain, but Dr. Pau can do these injections with a whole lot less pain. After he treated me, my pain was a whole lot better. I sent my husband to Dr. Pau and he is now a whole lot better. Sometimes, we have to wait about 15 minutes in the office, but this is worth it because Dr Pau actually cares about us. We now can travel and do things that didn't do before because we were afraid that doing different things would aggravate out pain and we would have a hard time getting back to Hawaii comfortably. I always tel Dr. Pau Thank you so much for caring and making us better.
